Hello,
I am new to the forum but not to my Avalanche. We bought our's brand new in 2002 a Z66 model currently have 82,000 miles on it.

I am in the U.S. Navy have been for 19 years now on the down hill slide to retirement.

My question is I will be pulling a 6,700 lb 1971 27' Airstream with it. I would like to know which is the best aftermarket Tranny cooler or does the OEM work just as good? Part numbers would be greatly appreciated. Looking fwd to some help thanks

welcome to the club nmex
you will probably get more cooling with a aftermarket one

:welcome:...we are glad your here.

The factory auxiliary cooler works well, but, an aftermarket cooler can be bought larger, providing more cooling than factory.

You definitely want an Auxiliary cooler. I opted for the B&M 14,400 BTU generic aftermarket model, part number 70264, through JEGS. It was the cheapest I found it. This thing works great. I was running 250 degrees with my trailer in South Carolina running easy before I put the thing in. After that, consistent 200 degrees for normal driving. Have gotten it up to 230 degrees doing things I probably shouldn't have done, but I know I would have left the trans somewhere out west without it. Easy to install too. Trans temp gauge is another good thing to install if you're going to do a lot of towing.

You're towing at the top end of the rating for the Av. I'd get as large an aftermarket cooler as you can get. B&M Supercooler or Long Manufacturing are the two I would suggest. I've got a 24k btu Long Manufacturing unit; it was purchased from eBay.

I pull a vintage 25 ft Caravanner with my Z71 and stouc tranny cooler.  The trailer weight is about 5500 full.  I have no problems pulling it through the GA Mountains or over the Smokies.
