Well it started last week when it caught me by surprise, as I was leaving a stop, I noticed that I was taking off in 3rd gear. It would stay like this until I would turn off the ignition for about a minuet and restart. It would then run fine for a day or two before doing it again. I was trying to pin point the symptoms so I could pass the proper info the mechanic who works on it.
Only having the AV since last July and not had any problems as of yet I was not sure where to take it. To the (screw you over dealer) or the (screw you over tranny shop) I took it to a tranny shop and they replaced a few parts. They were very detailed in their explanations as we went through the problems.
This unit was built in Aug 2002. they explained that a wiring harness (inner trans) needed replacing as well as some other parts, EPC controller, PWM modulator, L/U solenoid, 3/2 shift controller, of course did an oil change. They said that the computer may need to be reflashed but they were able to clear the codes so that was not required. It ran ok for about 2 hours or so then did it again. I called them back right away. This was late last Thursday just before the long weekend. Mechanics were all gone home for the weekend. The manager / owner said that if the unit reset he would check it out Monday. The tranny reset when I turned it off then on and did it two more times during the weekend. Ran ok the rest of the time.
Between yesterday and today the tranny shop had the AV and tried to figure out the problem. They called their tech support. They took the computer out to, two separate dealers for them to flash the board and they would not as the dealer said that the computer has two newer versions and they could not flash an older board. I would have to buy a new computer $700.00. The tranny shop and their tech support, did not think that because of the symptoms that the computer was the problem so they put it back in.
This is what they are leaning towards as possible problems. I do have a remote starter. They did speak of this being a possible problem. I don?t know enough about what happens with remote starters to say this is or is not a possibility. Other then I believe that when vehicles start, they disable other devices during this period. Not sure. I do know that there are a number of modules that need to talk to each other for auto start / security to work properly and I had the work done at the dealer by the GM factory trained techs.
The other possibility is the ignition as GM has had some problems in the past. I am not sure about this ether. I guess the next step is to take it to the dealer.
Any insight on this would be great. Thanks
