Hello all, sorry if this question has been asked before but I've not been able to find it.
Question: on 09 avy Lt where is the trans fluid bypass thermo located? It is not on the external block that is located where the lines go into the trans. Is it located internally? It is a 6l80. No aux trans cooler.

I came across a couple silverado forum posts stating that they weren't put into the 6l80e until 2014. Which if true, means you don't have one at all. Though, if you dont have an aux cooler, why would you?

Did a quick googling though in case someone has one of these after a trans swap or something, I found this video:

Thanks for the info Raekal!
As far as the aux external cooler, I would do it myself because I already have one of the lines that might be leaking. Peace of mind I guess. With cooler temps what could it hurt. I tow a camper and It gets to a out 200° at times. I know 200 isn't to far out of line, but its getting there. If that makes any sense.

Generally, cooler temps won't hurt anything. I think gm claimed that in areas that see a lot of freezing weather throughout the year the thermostat was supposed to help with preventing failures due to the cold. (Likely base temps + extra arctic cooling on the fins)

If you tow frequently l, it's a pretty common upgrade and was factory on the 6.0's with towing package.

With further investigation, I don't have a cooler thermo anyway. The lines from the tranny go directly to the rad. I took the block off of the trans that the lines go in and no means for a thermostat. The block itself is sealed. Followed the linea all the way to the rad and nothing. Way odd since the trans shop was going to charge $500 for trans service and to delete that thermostat that isn't even there.👎👎👎to them. I'm glad I decided to do ot myself.
