My family and I are going to Washington, D.C. for vacation this year.  I have a dilemma though.  With my AV being heavily modded, I am afraid that it will be a target for the less desirables during my trip, not to mention the heavy tint all the way around (including the windshield) as being a bullseye as I travel through Virginia and D.C.  With that in mind, we have decided to take my wife's AV rather than mine, hers would be less of a target than mine.  Only one drawback would be that mine has the OEM Navigation HU while hers does not.  I have grown quite dependent on the Navigation system through my travels, and the thought of having to navigate the old fashioned way (I HATE folding maps up) is repulsive.

With that said, I am considering putting the AVIC-Z2 in my AV and moving my OEM Navigation HU into hers.  Here are the specifics:

Mine is a 2005 with OEM Navigation.

Hers is a 2006 with the Bose Lux Amp.

Can the HU simply be moved to hers?  Is the GPS antenna separate from the OnStar or does it integrate into the OnStar antenna?  She has OnStar on hers.
Will this be a simple plug, reflash the VIN at the dealer, and play?  Help!!  Vacation is just over a month away.......

Unless someone has changed amps in your wife's 06, she does not have a Lux Bose, she has a Premium Bose.....which I assume you also have.

Yes, you will have to add the GPS antenna, but it is a simple installation/swap and a trip to the dealer for the theft lock program and you are good to go...

You are correct sir, I was thinking backwards (again).  My brain is mush researching the AVIC's trying to decide which one I wanted.  I was thinking of just swapping the GPS antenna since the AVIC will be coming with one anyway.  Thanks for the input.

Was her's modded for Lux? No Av's come from the factory with such.

As was mentioned, just swap it in with the antenna. Most dealers can do a VIN Learn. Some, even for free to loyal customers. There may be an update to the linked document (#1275527)

Your premium system to same is easy. Especially into the 06, since it has the VSS pre-wired.

Enjoy your trip!

When are yu going and why? I also have a home there. I wouldn't worry about the AV being a target. They are everywhere and the tint scares them off, they can't see inside to see what you have.

I will be up there 7-2 to 7-4

GPS Antenna:      15207447 - -    45.25  ?Module? A new # is: 15135178

Why don't you just take the old out and move it to the new one, It's under the  top of the dash, above the passenger air bag

I have decided to leave the factory OEM Nav TNR in the '05 and put another factory OEM Nav TNR in the '06.  Got a spankin' deal on one from a local member that I will be putting in widow's AV this weekend.

Byron

Is the 45.25 a price you found somewhere?  If so, where?  Cheapest I have found is 67.XX

Thanks for your help with this.....you rock!!

Actually it was from the Tech Center, let me check some sites and I'll  be back in 10 minutes

OK 60.00 is about what they run, that's what I paid for mine.

Finally got the OEM TNR head unit installed in trAVelingman's widow's AV and working.  Easy install and a quick trip to the dealer, thank you Avalanche Fox, to deactivate the Theftlock and all is working well.  Thanks for everyone's help.
