Transmission Shifting Problems

Hello everyone, my name is Kim. I have been having some transmission shifting problems on my 2003 Chevy Avalanche 2wd. First, let me say I had the computer scanned for any codes ended up getting a (P1810) code. Which ended up being the transmission Pressure Switch located at the bottom of the transmission. We replaced that part, shift solenoids, changed filter, fluid. Before we changed all that, we couldn’t get to 2nd gear at all. Now that we have changed all that, we can get 2nd gear (With a lot of hesitation and straining) goes in 3rd gear good, but no 4th gear. Can someone help explain to me what could be going on with the tranny?? We thought was maybe in a limp mode but now we really don’t know..

Way too many things it could be. Frictions, Bands, Crack carriers, other solenoid valves, clogged valve plate etc.

How does tranny fluid look and smell?

How many miles? if well over 150K you could be in need of tranny rebuild or replacement as they can be the weak link in the drivetrain.

The tranny fluid looks light brown with a hence of pink. When we dropped the tranny pan there wasn’t no metal shavings. We thought maybe that was a good sign. But the tranny fluid is not suppose to be light brown at all, especially when we just changed the fluid.. Also, it’s got 200.000 miles on it.

Not that this will fix your problem, but how many quarts of fluid did you replace? There are 11+ quarts in the 4l60 and related systems, but a pan drop to change the filter will only let out a few quarts. This could explain why your fluid is still brown.

We replaced it with only 5 quarts. We just scanned the computer for codes again, and we got a P0332 and a P0446 do you know if either one of these codes would have something to do with the transmission hesitation into changing gears?

This worked for me and I don't usually suggest snake oils but I was having some shifting issues a while ago and what I did was dump about half a can of Seafoam in the trans. Worked it through by going through the gears and drove it around for a bit. At this point it was already shifting smoother. The next day I did a drain and fill on the fluid and haven't had an issue yet. I'm at 220K miles on my 04 and tow a #4500 travel trailer once a mouth. Might want to give Seafoam it shot before rebuilding or replacing the trans.
