2002 avy z71 132k miles
I had a bad leak in the transmission fitting to the cooler lines i didn't notice until about 20 miles from my house when the transmission started to slip and rev pretty badly. Code 1870 popped up. Checked the level and it was super low, i realized it was just dumping out from the fitting. . I got it towed back to my house. I replaced the fitting which no longer leaks. I had no idea how much fluid i lost so i filled very slowly with it idling over the course of maybe an hour with , maybe a pint every 5 min to hopefully not overfill it. Well, after 5.5 qts it finally got between the notches of " hot". I went through the gears but only really noticed it engaging into Drive. I took it for a ride down the road, it didn't rev or slip at all but i noticed it never bumped into 2nd. I drove it up and down the road a few times and it never progressed. I put it 3rd and 2nd as well but acted as if it was still in 1st. I got infront of my house and put it in reverse, it drove forward, i put it in neutral, it went forward. It only drives in 1st and Parks. I got out and with it still idling i checked the fluid, it's about 2 inches past the full mark on hot. I have no idea how that happened since i filled it so slowly with it idling at temp for such a long time. Can overfilling it by a lot keep it from shifting into the other gears? I'm hoping since it drove nicely in 1st and is overfilled this is the issue and not some awful transmission failure .
