Transmission went out

The Transmission in my 2007 Avalanche, LTZ, 21,000 miles, just went out.  I had to wait 5 days before the dealer got around to fixing it.

This truck has never pulled a trailer, been in the montains, or carried a load.  It is driven half on highways and half in town.  No abuse...

The repairmen said he had recently had a bunch of similar transmission problems on 2007 Chev. Trucks.  It was the sprag that broke inside the transmission.

Without warning the Drive goes out and you have to shift it down to 1 - 2 - 3.
This problem requires a complete transmission overhall.

THE BIG QUESTION???  Will my transmission (or maybe yours) go out again at 42,000 miles.  Keep in mind they did not improve the Sprag Gear.  They have only replaced it with another Sprag Gear of the same poor quality!!!.

That's terrible your 12th post had to be that.

I can't believe GM won't put a better tranny in the Av :E:

Mine went out July 26th with 49,250 miles, towed it to the dealer that night and they still have it.? They are going to cover 100% repairs and a rental car.

Sounds like they are taking care of you also, good luck.

This sounds like what happened to me.

Mine ended up having the brain replaced not the actual transmission. It acted like a tranny problem but they could find nothing physically wrong.

Now my latest problem is a stress crack on the windshield. I know I did not get hit but there is a crack all the same under the passenger wiper. I used some windshield repair to stop the crack from growing but I wonder if I hurt my chances of getting the dealer to cover it from the known stress crack issues.

I feel your pain, Mine is currently in for repair at 8k miles!

hmmmm  with the number of 07 trucks out there,,, they say you're the only one....  THey live a VERY sheltered existance.... not even close to being logical...

however, the guy (in the dealership) who rebuilt my 04's tranny did a superb job... BETTER than new... hopefully you do as well!

Sorry to hear of your tranmission woes, just because it is new doesn't mean reliability I guess, good luck on getting your Av back quickly!  :B:

dang GM still hasnt fixed the trans on the Av yet that really suck guess there just carry overs from the older Avs...my 05 died had o get a complete rebuild..... :beating:

The trans on the 07 is pretty much the same, however, it has a higher fluid pressure.

My sprag gear departed the vehicle with about 15,000 miles.  When it let loose, I was sitting at a light, then I felt the motor go into a free-wheel mode, (unloaded), when the light turned green, nothing on OD, dropped it down to low and was able to limp to the nearest dealer manually shifting up to third as I went.  At the next light, the same thing.  I got to the dealer and get a-load of this.  The Service Manager told me to limp it home and call the dealer in the neighboring town because he doesn't have anyone that could fix it.  He would have to farm it out.  I called Gwatney Chevrolet in Jacksonville, AR and they sent a flat-bed out, loaded it up, and about 5 days later, I had my baby back. :D

Hope everything stays together for ya now.  (y)

Now that is great customer service there!  Remind me not to purchase a vehicle from them.

I have the exact same specs as you, even within 1000 miles.   I was pulling out on to a congested road and BANG.   Loudest sound from the rear of the vehicle and no power.   Felt like the truck was in neutral.   I shifted to 1 then 2 to get to the nearest dealer.   I hope they fix it properly because I was in the middle of a really crowded road when it happened.

Not another one  and only your 4th post! :E:

The stealership ended up fixing it for me almost the same day.   It was the exact same resolution as above. . . New sprag and clutches.   Drives like a champ now.   They even through in an oil change, tire rotation and detail just for the inconvenience.   Not that bad of an experience overall.

Mine had 60,000 on it before I replaced it, and it was still running strong.... the last 20,000 miles were not your typical daily driven experience..... :D

I have to join the "tranny went out" club. I have a '07 LTZ that has 28950 on the odometer. I slowed down to make a turn and when I tried to accelerate I heard a very loud "bang" and the vehicle acted as though it went into neutral. I had no OD or 3rd gears. I had to shift it down to 1st to limp it to the dealer to get it fixed. After three days they diagnosed it as the forward sprag clutch had gone out. I have It back now and it seems to be alright, but this is my second major problem which means strike two. One more and GM will loose a very loyal customer! (n)

did they give you a whole rebuilt or fix the original?

WILDFIRE
The service guy repaired the original one. He's pretty anal though. I thought you would just replace the bad part, flush and off you go. Well not this guy, the entire thing was broken down with each part individually flushed of shavings and then reassembled using a new sprag clutch. It took him nearly 4 days but I won't complain because I know it was done right. (Or he milked the hell out of the warranty).

Welcome(?) to the club! (n) Small percentage of 4L60Es have had this exact problem/exploded since circa 1999. On the other hand, many more have survived extreme abuse. Sounds like you got a great service guy and the odds are now with you.  (y)
