Just got my 'Lanche last Thursday. 2002 1500 4wd Z71, Summit White, leather. :D
We are putting in new floors at the house, so had to go to Home Depot to buy some baseboard moulding strips. Found out the size I need comes in 16'x3" strips. Needed to carry those long boys home in the 'Lanche.

Downed the midgate, left tailgate up. Slid those strips all the way into the front of the cabin, between the two bucket seats, into the passenger floorboard. Only a couple, maybe 3, feet were left sticking out of the back of the top of the tailgate. Wife kept a hand on them to keep them steady, and off we went.

NO problem. ;D

Just traded in a 1997 'Burban, and would have played HELL trying to fit those strips into that thing as easily and securely (without any tie downs) as the 'Lanche managed it.

Definitely a Versatile Vehicle. Passed test #1 with FLYING colors.........

Not quite as dramatic but I had to pick up some 1X4 to trim out a door I had installed. This guy parked next to me in a ford F150 with a shell asked me about it. I told him that the biggest problem I was having was that I was able to haul so much crap around with me. (at the time I had an array of garden tools (rake, 2 shovels, hay folk, pick and 2 lawn rakes) as well as my nail bags, cordless drill and accessories a couple of tool tote boxes, Chain saw with gas & oil to name a few. He said that he needed to put 8' pieces in his truck. His jaw dropped when I pointed out that I had all that stuff plus 4 pieces 1X4X8 in the back with the tail gate closed. I just smiled and drove away... :) :) :)

The only thing I don't like about hauling long pieces is that I only end up doing this in the winter, and I have to move my driver's seat up, so it feels like I am driving with my knees on my chest.

When I carry 16 footers, if small open the rear window on my truck lay'em on the dash and ratchet strap onto the top of tailgate of the 8' box. if it is big limber like LONG 2x10's et al I just put 'em on my 18' car hauler.
