I find all this information about this TSB informative, but could some one actually post the actual TSB here?

Everywhere I've look you have to pay for this information.

I have the TSB number, the new PCV part number 12572717, but I'm very interesting in the actual wording of the TSB.

with 5.3L or 6.0L Engine (VINs T, N, U - RPOs LM7, LQ9, LQ4)

Condition
Some customers may comment on higher than expected engine oil consumption. They may further comment on consumption in the range of 2,000 miles (3,200 km) or less per quart (0.946 liter) of oil under normal driving conditions.

Cause
The condition may be due to the PCV Valve flow rate under certain engine operating conditions.

Correction
Verify that the oil consumption is not the result of an oil leak or other engine concern.
Dealer should perform an oil consumption test. The vehicle should have accumulated over 4,000 miles (6,450 km) before establishing the oil consumption rate. Reference Service Bulletin #01-06-01-011, Information on Engine Oil Consumption Guideline, for details.
Remove the PCV Valve and inspect the hose going to the intake manifold for signs of excessive oil being present.
If excessive oil is present in the PCV hose, replace the PCV Valve Type 948C (2) with a new-style fixed orifice PCV Valve Type CV2001-C (1). See Fig. 1 - PCV Valve Identification.

Important
Do not install the new style fixed orifice PCV Valve on vehicles equipped with the 4.8L V8 Engine (RPO LR4). Use of this orifice on the 4.8L V8 engine may affect engine idle quality and engine RPM control.



Important
The new style fixed orifice PCV Valve contains no moving parts, and does not rattle when shaken.


If the vehicle has an orifice style PCV Valve, investigate other causes for high oil consumption.

Thanks much, but I'm wondering if this is the most current TSB on this subject.
Reason I asked is because I have been given the TSB number 01-06-01-029B
(possibly "B" is a newer version?) ^

The TSB you quoted didn't have the "B" on it.

Another person sent me an itemized list of his invoice and it talks about not only replacing the PCV valve but also an epoxy kit to seal a hole in the baffle underneath the PCV valve where it goes through the valve cover.

Could you possibly lookup and see if you can find the TSB 01-06-01-029B and email it to me if you can find it??

Interesting that it looks like the only difference between the first version and second version of this TSB is that they reference the GM part number in the second one.

Still no mention of the steps to use the epoxy kit to seal the baffle under the PVC valve. Make me wonder why there are so many different services performed that owners have reported.

thanx for all the clarification. i just changed my oil about 2500 miles ago, and the "check oil level" indicator came on 2 days ago. i did not want to believe the oil was low after so little mileage. but it was. i remembered reading this a few weeks ago. so i went to the dealer to see if they knew anything about this. of course not. so i had them look up the part numbers for the valves to see what they came up with. only one number for the '02's. discouraged i cam home to look for the post. i thought i had printed it out. then it dawned on me that i read the consumption was '02 peculiar. so i asked for an '03 valve. my intention was to try and locate the thread i read the info in. compare the part numbers. then either install it or return it. i see i got the right one. you guy's are awesome. thanx again!

Not to scare anyone but... I had a little different oil consumption problem... after going through 2 quarts of oil in my 1st 2500 miles... I was told that it wasn't a problem (Within standards) by the dealer I purchased my AV from.
Nevertheless I convinced them to start an oil consumption test. After more continued oil loss (through my first 12k miles) and a couple of heated discussions I went to the service mgr of a DIFFERENT dealership and explained my problem.

He said he'd do some research. About a week later, He called me to tell me about the PCV change and we tried it.... TWICE!!!.... still used oil.

During this time, however, I noticed puffs of smoke on startup... nothing big... just a puff.... Sure enough, oil was leaking past the valve seals... They did the repair (under warranty) and now with almost 40k I've not had to add even 1 additional quart of oil between changes.

I use the change engine oil light for my maintenence warning... It seems to closely coincide with 4000 miles anyway.

Although a major concern could have been nasty, a good Service Manager and some dilligence on my part took care of the issue.

My motto. If at first they don't listen... find someone who will!

well i have to say that this TSB is bull****. i went to the dealer and got this new/better PCV valve. it just so happens that when i removed mine it was the exact same as the one i had just bought. there is no spring and plunger in the OEM PCV valve. it is nothing inside of the valve in the truck. just a big empty valve you can see straight through. exactly the way the new one was. and yes they had the exact same part numbers.
went to the autopart store to get the spring and plunger style only to find that they did not have one listed. this was at Napa. went to Advance next. they had one listed in their Purolator book, but not in stock. sorry, i do not remember the part number. i believe it may have been PV1062 or PV1063. i could check again for those who want to know.

it was PV1063. just looked it up on their site. i wanted to see if it was a spring and plunger style or the fixed orifice style. i may just order it from them. can't cost too much. it would satisfy my curiousity. i may just e-mail them as well.

Well i ordered 2 of the cv2001c? from the ACDelco website and guess what... got 2 of the OLD stlyle.



I will try and find the the fixed orrifice somewhere.

I have a 2004 Avalanche with 5.3 Engine.  And it uses oil about 1 quart every 5000 miles.  Was going to replace the PCV valve but I am told by the dealer that the PCV is build into the valve cover.  The price is 158.19.  How can I test to see if the PVC is clogged or not working
