twist knobs for back window

Awesome work. I’m in!

I would be interested in purchasing a spare set.

I'm a marketing genius, here's my pitch. I'm thinking $50 for a pair which includes free shipping AND a lifetime guarantee  (the part costs about 6 cents to make and several hours on the machine hence the lifetime guarantee :ROFLMAO: plus I'm using a stronger plastic for future runs)

The money will be split between 1. the originator of the part, 2. Frito, the idea man, having a daughter that 3d prints and 3. 20streetrod06 for providing the link to no. 1

I think its a fair price for what the end user receives, and kicking back some $$$ to the guys that put this together. What do you guys think ?

How do these things break?
I mean mine are still original and 20.5 years old!

Now I do not use every day either

Lazy man syndrome when I took out the window I would only use the driverside latch cause I did not want to walk around to the other side. When the driverside broke I had to use the other side which broke real quick.

Now ask why the window frame cracked same thing latched it in on the driverside, funny how if you use the driverside the other side breaks.

I'm sure I'm not the only one that did this. >:D

I assume mine just broke from being over decade old brittle plastic. I always used both sides until one side broke.

Basically, it breaks where the circlip helps hold it in place. There is very little material there that is bound to just snap over time, as they do. I take my window out all the time in nicer weather or when camping, or when moving or when... Yeah, it gets some use. Should have been a metal piece vs. plastic.

Although my retainers are intact I think it's a great idea. Community supporting community as it has been and should be.

I can't help but wonder why no one has repaired the broken piece using epoxy or maybe even welding plastic to it.

I'm a few lines short of a circle and waste a lot of time fabricating the stupid stuff so I'd find a cylindrical object to fit inside the hole and wrap it with tape for easy removal, then epoxy the part, shaping as best as possible, then when dry enough, shape again and allow to completely cure, then sand to fit.

This is really version 1, a stronger plastic will obviously last longer but I wanted to make the cheapest version first and see how well it holds up, they are literally pennies to make, next version will be stronger, I'm currently printing 4 sets, I'd like to contact the originator and offer $$ for every part made and kickdown some $$$, also 20streetrod06 and frito for finding the link, plenty of opportunity here :)

Also offer a lifetime guarantee with every set purchased, shipping included, no greed here just trying to create something for the Avalanche enthusiasts :)
Could you send me a couple?

Are you beginning to sell these as I could use a pair!

It looks like Code3Av hasn't logged into the forum since March 30, 2012.

I wonder what's up.

I think @Raekal made some. In regards to the above, the initial file wasn't mine so I don't deserve any kind of "royalty" for others printing them.

Thank you for offering. And don't want to make you busy helping me. IF, if, you get an extra set, I would love a pair, I broke my driver's side. I will ensure I make it worth the time/hassle.

It's not a big deal, my newer printer can print a half dozen of them at a time. Right now is the perfect moment as i'm waiting on red plastic to come in for a commercial run of parts. I can go ahead and get plate of them printing as soon as I get home. They'd be in black unless someone prefers another color.

I'll take a pair of black ones when you get them done.

No big hurry on my part.

PM me with your final price, how you wish to be paid and any info you need from me.

I think I may have bought the last OEM ones on the planet last year from an online GM dealer getting rid of some old stock and they came in a generic color.

I found some interior vinyl paint that was close enough.

I think it would be nice to put back a couple of spares, just in case.

Thanks for your efforts.

I don't deserve any "royalty" either, all I did was share info that I had found. I'm glad to help the Forum out when I can.

(but I wouldn't complain about a free set if the time came that I needed them, haha! 😁😇)
Oh, I know. I just don't want you or anybody else to consider sending me anything if you print any for folks. I really didn't do anything. 👍

Paint is definitely the best solution to color matching. Plastic pigments vary far too greatly for any sort of matching, though I have tons of grey plastic as well that might make it easier to cover for that particular application. The color is as seen in this post: https://www.chevyavalanchefanclub.c...problems-with-the-midgate.155968/post-2184035

It's worth noting that the example given there was for a color test and the print quality was awful.

I should also mention that if you happen to want more than one pair (family members, ect), I think i can fit a half dozen of them inside a flat rate padded envelope, I sent two pair to the last person just because. So it's a lot more cost effective that route if you can use them.

If you need a set, let me know. I'm just charging a couple bucks for plastic and whatever you'd like to do with shipping. $10.50 is the theoretical maximum in the US for a pair using a padded flat rate envelope.
Hey! I will definitely purchase a pair! Want to PM me your payment details?

Raekal,

If your still up to creating to these. I would like pair. Have not been able to store my glass. Since both have broken. PM me with details. Thank you.

I suppose I should reply in general for thread clarity and say that i'm still making these upon request and have generally been shipping within ~2 days as long as everything goes smoothly. (sometimes a QC hiccup happens). I usually just go ahead and PM interested parties directly if they dont reach out to me first. Though, i'm a little less active on the weekends ironically.

I'm not sure if anyone has tried them out yet, atleast, i haven't heard back. No news is often good news in such cases I suppose.

Just came across this thread. I am the original creator of this. This was actually the first thing I designed after getting my 3d printer. Glad I could contribute back to the community. If you print this and it works post up a make on thingaverse so I can see that people are getting use out of it. If anyone wants to offer a printing service for this feel free to as long as people know they can print it themselves if they have a 3d printer.

Here is the original Fusion 360 design file if someone needs to modify it. Hopefully my google drive link works.

My daughter printed one side for me a while back and it's been holding up well. She moved out in March so it had to have been before then.

I modified the thingaverse item to have a passenger and driver side file now instead of instruction to mirror the driver side. Hopefully it will save someone some confusion in the future.
