been reading tons of links on installing a remote start and have a few questions.

a ton of these links are old and the kits installed are long gone. I see all kinds of viper and compustar kits, but are these universal or are they vehicle specific?

also, are these remote start kits worth it? it seems it's a pain to install and seen a lot have reliability issues. if it's this much trouble I would probably just pass on it. I put in a plug and play remote start on my wife's 2016 4runner and it was a breeze.

my truck is a 2002 model, power windows power locks with keyless entry currently. wanting to find a kit with new fobs (hate the stock ones)

You need to check with the companies that make the remote starts since the 2002 AV has a unique electrical system and may not be compatible with modern remote start kits. Also as a side note you should have read on this site about electrical problems in some AVs and one of the first things recommend is to check for aftermarket accessories such as remote starters since many cause issues.
If I had to have a remote start on a 2002 I would look for a factory replacement kit or get one from a 2002 in a junkyard etc. realizing that I would be looking for a 20 year old part.

I just ripped out my Viper Remote start last week after dealing with all the electrical gremlins it was causing I couldn't take it anymore. I've had it for 3 years, but this past year has been nothing but unreliable. Weird battery drains, would go off at weird hours and valet mode would sometimes completely lock me out from even starting the AV. Also the shop I used to install it went under do to COVID so I tried to uninstall myself cause no shop wouldn't touch it.

this is exactly my fear. I don't want it that bad if I have to constantly worry about it being reliable. are the factory ones plug and play?

like the vsc-3400?

Never heard of Factory Remote Start in 2002.

Like I said ever read on here of anyone adding on GM alarm thingy on a 2002 most back then used VIPER and eventually rip them out due to starting issues.

hm then I wonder what this kit is for? all the listing say 99-02

I looked at a sale listing on Ebay for that kit and the fitment chart said it would fit a 1999, 2000, 2001 and a 2002 AV. That would kind of set off red flags for me since there was never a 1999-2001 AV of any type. (now a Suburban or Tahoe of those years yes....)

yup I seen that it basically lists 99-02 gm trucks which is the 1st year of "the new bodys" .

well this sucks, I would love to have remote start added but it doesn't seem as easy as I thought it would be
