Upcoming GTG's

Not familiar with these locations and have no real preference.  Probably wise to scout them out for something with convenient parking.

I have found three available park options in Summit County:
http://www.summitmetroparks.org/Reservations/Shelters.aspx

Cascade Valley Park
1061 Cuyahoga St, Akron 44313
$45
Hilltop Shelter available Saturday and Sunday

Munroe Falls Metro Park
521 S. River, Munroe Falls 44262
$45
Main Beach Shelter available Saturday and Sunday
Shady Beach Shelter available Saturday and Sunday
Maple Beach Shelter available Saturday

Silver Creek Metro Park
5000 Hametown Rd, Norton 44203
$40
Pheasant Run Shelter available Saturday and Sunday

I may go investigate these to see which works best for us.
Check on parking, rest room locations, conditions, etc.
Would be nice to stay close with the trucks for discussions of mods and features.

I am going scouting today, after work.  (y)

I'll probably skip Silver Creek Pheasant Run Shelter as it has only one grill, no water and no electric.
Let's call Silver Creek "Plan B" in case the other locations don't work out.

Also, Toots tells me that Munroe Falls Park has an admission fee - I'll try to get confirmation on that.

Scouting report:

Cascade Valley Park, although a nice quiet place, will not work for us.
The shelter is up hill and visibly away from parking.

Munroe Falls will work.
Main shelter is over an embankment from parking - not good.
Shady shelter is OK, about 100 feet from parking.
Maple Shelter is better, but available to reserve only on Saturday the 25th.

Reservations are not required - shelter is available first come, first served.
But if reserved, it is guaranteed yours.

I'll call Thursday to get more info on payment requirements and any other admission fees.

I'm guessing Sunday would be better than Saturday as I expect some of you may have to work Saturday?

I can check on some parks here in Tallmadge too.

Opinions?

I will be off that Saturday. The bosses just don't know it yet >:D Not sure of the others.

We are good with whatever.

Another update:

There will be an admission fee to get into Munroe Falls Park.
Ages 13 and up, $4
2-12, $3
Under 2, free

Memorial Day weekend is opening weekend and if the weather is nice we can expect a large crowd.

I have reserved, but not yet paid for, Shady Beach Shelter for Sunday May 26th.
I have one week to make the $45 payment, or the shelter goes back up for grabs.

The admission fee is because of the swimming lake.
I don't think any of us are planning to swim, but that's the way it is.
I don't like it, but I'll pay it.

Please let me know by Tuesday if the admission fee is unacceptable.
If the fee is not acceptable, we'll have to find an alternative.

Admission fee is no big deal. IIRC we paid about $70 per truck to go out on the Erie Islands.  :needhug:

Good point.
I have paid way more than $4 in gas just to go to dinner.
What bothers me is we are paying to reserve the shelter and then we have to pay to get in to use it.
But that's just me being my usual cheap frugal self.  :-[
Heck, margaritas are usually more than $4.  :abuelito:

No problem on the admission cost.  We will help cover the shelter even in the unlikely event that something comes up and we are not able to attend.

Thanks for the heads-up on the Memorial Day GTG, Toots!!

RCHeliguy and I will be there for sure - WE MISS YOU GUYS!!! - ....most likely Little One will be with as well.  We'll be happy to help cover the cost of the shelter.  We'll try to stay in the loop about the details.

YAY!!  I already can't wait!

Looks like I might be solo to the event.  I will keep you updated if I am coming. Its 90 percent yes right now.  I will be gladly help chip in on costs.

:woohoo:
BTW, that's  :woohoo: that you are coming, not :woohoo: you'll be solo.  >:D

I'm going to check to see if dogs are allowed.
I know people (myself included) walk their dogs there in the "off season."

Ooops, forgot to mention, picnic topic is started...

This is a great option for lights.  About 2 hours from GBT's town.  An hour past where Hartwood Acres was on the Turnpike.

Overlys County Christmas

What is cool is that it is more like a town with shops, carriage rides and a huge bonfire.

Just a thought

Yeah...it's more than just lights.  Can shop and sit around the bonfire.

Sounds good.

We are penciled in for the 14th.  Either one we should be good for...

No other opinions for lights?  :(

Can't guarantee that we will be in the area on the 14th, but if we are either Dicken's or Overly's sounds good to me.

I started checking around for more lights in the general area.  There are some in Clifton Mills, in Lebanon, and even in Akron at Stan Hywet.  I was researching it when our laptop caught a virus.  Have more details later.  Some of them were expensive but sounded pretty nice.
