Valentine VR1 upgrade time

Not question of Broke.

NEw ones have better range...
 
i'm perfectly happy with my 5 mile range i get from mine, even with logic activated. guess i'll wait til she dies, gotta be like a dog or cat right? 15 years is pushing it? lol
 
Time for upgrade again...

THis time they have some programming changes that will help prevent false alarms from other cars with RADAR for lane detection and Following Cruise control..

It has become a PIA...

Still works like champ... had car on side of me other day... V1 Chirped real quick then off...

See bridge mile ahead... so I start slowing down...
Car on my side kept going full bore...
He crests the bridge and there is the Trooper waving him over to side...

Best detector EVER IMO...
 
I got my email in December, the upgrade cost was not too much.
 
Did you ever get the upgrade done and how well does it work now.
 
I got it.

the upgrade I got basically gave me the filter for CARS with side/front warning radar.

THink it works because it goes off alot less whe naround Buicks/BMW/Mercedes/Caddy etc.
 
Thanks, I think I'll send mine in before the summer driving season. I wish they would make a download if they are not upgrading the hardware.
 
Has anyone looked over at the Valentine site lately, so much about the statement "this is the last detector you would need."
 
what do you mean?

They have a new model coming out and I am sure they will honor upgrade by you sending in old one and they send you new one for reduce price
 
I was looking at doing another upgrade to the VR1  since it has been 5 years, so I typed in the serial number and it displayed its been superseded with the new gen 2

I do not have an immediate need to upgrade to the Gen 2 because of the one I have works fine.

But the new model has some features I like.
One is it has built-in BlueTooth and I currently have a BlueTooth module for my old one.
The new one has the ability to do firmware updates online were as the old one has to be sent back to them which is a little pricey IMHO
The new one has 360 coverage versus the old one has front, rear, and sides.

The discount was about 24% based on the selling price of 499.00 on their website.

Used old models are selling for 225-270 on ebay depending on how complete they are

So that's my dilemma, should I keep mine and sell it on ebay and get twice as much above the discount.
But again it is not an immediate need.
 
I want one but this statement is keeping me from pulling the trigger on buying one

About 10 years ago I was driving on I-95 from NJ though VA on my way to FL, got pulled over and a received a ticket after he "detected" I was using one  ....SO.... on the way back up (a week later) I just removed the power cable so I would not get caught using it.  Well long story short, while in traffic, a cop was next to me and pulled me over because he saw it in my windshield.

Needless to say, even after I showed him the ticket I just revived 5 days ago, he didn't care and  I got another ticket because his words, "intent to use"  :E:

yeah I lost my Shhh threw my detector in my trunk and said a few my choice words.  I guess I'm lucky I didn't get locked up haha

not an issue for me as I do not go there...

Yeah, they are offering a $10k bonus to move there  :eek:  makes me wonder why. :rolleyes:  I'd much rather go down to the Gulf as I enjoyed my time at Keesler (y)
 
The Gen 2 has been out for a while now and I have mine by upgrading the old one which means mail back old one and you get $100 off the new one.

Well worth it such a difference in range and not going off for every Buick and Honda that for some reason keep their back up radar sensors on full time. Crazy programming there as what good does it do on interstate. maybe they use it for lane change I dunno but this new Gen 2 is awesome.

I also like that now the software can be upgraded via bluetooth via the app. and the VR App is pretty interesting if you are a radar geek and there are others out there to do other things.

SO if on the fence and can swing the cash I say go for it.

FYI the mounts are very similar but the part where the detector slides in is what is different so if you have a blend mount or other type that bolted to where he suction cups go it will still work you just need to use the new cradle thingy.

I have had mine in the car since early this year and around town and local way way better.

Last month did a long 12 hour one way drive and this thing as way more range I figure easy mile or so based on my using it onthe same interstate stretch where certain Illinois troopers like to hang out in the median. Slight hills in between and I picked him up so far out I thought it was radar sPAM but then as I got closer I could tell is was a trooper.
 
I'm still on the fence with my one 389 to upgrade ?
I see they are now offering to update the Version 1 with the junk fighter stuff for 80 bucks.
 
I knew mine was a couple of upgrades behind I didn't think the junk fighter upgrade was worth this cost.. I been looking at ebay and I think I should be able to get around 200 with the add-ons I have because they are built-in with the gen 2 you have.

Thanks for the review I was waiting for someone to buy one.
