Ok I am self installing the Pioneer AVIC-N1... I figured out the backup wire, the E-brake by-pass but I am stuck on the wire to tap for the Speed Sensor to make the Navigation work!! Does anyone know which wire (color and location) to tap for the navigation VSS hookup?? I did a search but seems people like to send this info threw PMs. Why I don't know but anyways.....

Any help will be appreciated.

'02 OR '03/04?

03 CLUSTER:

`Easiest to tap at the back of the cluster..  A4

Save the image and display it with an image app; (or) the browser viewer's need to be FS. Scematics look scrappy otherwise.
Good luck!

Thanks Sperry. I just needed the wire schematic and it looks like Dark Green/white stripe behind the cluster. Now I can get to work on this thing when I get home from work. Thanks again.

I hope it's the right year!! Remember, I didn't have that and presumed it!
(The wire color coding should be the same however..)

An easy tap and a short wire.. Whew!

Yes I do have an 03. you were right. I just relized I don't say it in my sig. or post. sorry bout that.

the install is pretty straight foward so I should have no problems...

I recently installed a Kenwood DX-7015 with a navigation system. It calls for connecting a parking brake and speed sensor. I have grounded the parking brake so that I would have all features while driving the car. My speed sensor does not seem to register any speed. I was wondering if you would know if that would be because of the parking brake being grounded.

Thank you,

Rocky-in-AR

Ok here's a dumb question... Why does the GPS need to be tapped into the speed sensor?

I'm guessing so it can do calculations based on your speed, but my nav system (which is PC based) does this by calculationg it through the timing from the satalites. I would also think that the timing system would be much more accurate, or am I totally wrong?

I'm confused on this because I have seen this question come up multiple times...

One of the garmin gps units taps into the speed sensor to keep plotting your location if the unit looses its signal as in a tunnel or in a city around big buildings...its switches from the sat data to the sensor data.. for accuracy.

Ah cool... Thanks for the info... I didn't think of it that way. (y)

Here is what I found out. If the parking brake is on the navigation system will not go into routing or register speed. Once I disconnected the parking brake routing started working fine. When the car is at a stand still I have all functionality of the navigation system. When I start moving some of the features go away.

Are some of the features DVD entertainment?
If so,
It sounds as if they're seriously commited to safety...
Maybe aux video out will work for the entertainment (so it'll work rear seat monitor(s)?

Maybe remove the VSS tap and see what the results are?

ok heres what happened to you....

On the AVIC you need to GROUND out the P-brake wire so the vehicle thinks its on. As far as the navigation goes. Until you plan a route some functions are not going to be there, once the route is in it all works. NOW here is the kicker... remove the navi dvd and you only can acess certain features of the route setup that are stored in the hard drive, other stuff will need the navi dvd put back in. To solve THIS problem.. add a 6 or 12 disc changer and leave the Navi dvd in full time. That way you can pull up your tunes and still have full navi features.

Here is a little trick I read somewhere that I have used and works.. want to watch that DVD movie and have your nav screen on??? Take the output from the A/V jack and put THAT to the input of the backup camara!!! Now on the split screen mode your DVD will play on the left and your NAV screen is on the right!! Just make sure to have your route pre programmed or you will lose the nav feature when you install the dvd.

Hope this helps

Jude

Could I get the diagram for an '02? I tried to tap the A4 for the speed-o and according to Kenwood I got the wrong one. I have no voice commands and was told it was due to the wrong speed-o wire. BTW, I'm trying to install the Kenwood KNA DV4100 NAV!  ;D

Thanks!

Here's an 02 Cluster  diagram; several places to tap..

Pretty good idea...but doesn't doing that mean you lose the N1's backup camera functionality f you decide to hook up a backup camera to it? ;)

I am in the same boat as BAT.  05 Avalanche, need to hook up the speed sensor.  Any idea where/  Any help is greatly appreciated.  I have fixed all of the other installer screw ups  :3:, this is the last one.

I believe you need to tap the A4 pin since it's an '03 and up. It should be a green/ white wire behind the cluster. That's the one I tapped but I have an '02 and the proper pin location for me is the A3.... good luck!

The 05 is wired for it, at least in the uplevel models. Radio connector 2, "E". If it's a base model (no OnStar or XM, accs or radio connector 2), it's as was stated for wire color, but cluster connector "A4"

I have mine on a 2 way switch so when I dont need the dvd function I just switch it back over to the cam
