VR stacks related gripe!

I installed one of those VR stacks in my intake about 6 days ago.
I got it free when I got my Volant intake. Anyway I was doing
matinence one of the GTG I went to loosened the intake bolts.
So when I was under the hood I thought why not, I'll put in the
stack and see what these little things do.

Well the next day or so I was cruising the large hwy in town and going about 55 or so. I noticed my low end was pretty crappy. I didn't know why but I had lost some acceleration. The next day my fiance drives it she says she notices a whistling sound and that she
noticed it was lagging to. :7:

Well today I was doing other things and thought why not look at the
intake. So I take it off. Lo and behold what do I see but the little stack thingie is not only not in my throttle body but it is halfway in the intake tube! It must have fallen out (I don't know if this happened putting it in or in daily driving) Not only is it not in the TB but it is jammed in there blocking off a large part of the intake tube! :8: :E:

Anyway took it out and now my acceleration is fine! Man these intakes
are a PITA to take off and put on!!

Has this happened to anyone else? I followed the silly instructions
and they didn't say anything about this happening.

Anyway I read something today in a performance magazine that mentioned ANYTHING in the intake: spacers, tornado inserts no matter how small restrict the airflow. Just something to consider.

Aetatis,

Funny you should bring the Velocity Stack up again, I was just thinking about the thread that was started when they came out. To date I do not think anyone has responded back to the original thread stating that there was any type of improvement, more than a ferw people purchased them and said they would post their impressions after the install and the thread just seemed to die off.

I know velocity stacks work, my racebike has a staggered set for high RPM boost (verified on a dyno) but I am a little leary about running one on the AV.

I've been giving the velocity stack mod some thought myself. I had an Intermeccanica ('59 Porsche replica) w/ a 1600 cc flat four and dual 40IDF Weber carbs. I put velocity stacks on and did notice better low-end performance. But, that was a carburated application, and, perhaps more importantly, they were 2" stacks that were the same diameter as the throat of the carb and mounted on top of the carb and inside the air filter. The idea is that the external stack enhaces hte draft of the carb and "orders" the airflow so that the carb works more efficiently. The stack that fits inside the throat would narrow the cross-section to a degree, but might allow the air to enter the intake more efficiently by reducing drag and turbulence. Also, while narrowing the throat would make the cross-section less, it should act to accelerate the air actually allowing more into the intake for any given amount of time. I'm still curious.

Yeah,

I think those are valid. There is a current magazine that did a dyno
test of TB spacers and found that the best applications for them
were the 80s carburated engines. Because of the way the engine
works. It was set up to get boost from anything like a spacer.
The worst engine for this (terrible gains and worse some engines
showed a loss of power) were late 90's applications.

I think this could be true of the VR stacks. It would make some improvement in an older carburated engine but maybe not in a
pretty computer driven modern V8. Therefore venturis and ported
TB would be irrelevent in todays modern V8s. Course maybe if there
was something to take advantage of them like a S/C...

But even there I would think the gains would be minimal.

Truck Moxy magazine tested the stacks in 3 stock trucks and in all cases there was a loss of power 4 - 5 hp. They provided dyno sheets to prove it. The velocity stack is effective however, when used with a carborator. that was their findings.

Interesting news......To say the least.....

Well I placed mine in last Friday! I had purchased the predator programmer, and thought how much was enough! So for some reason I finially did it! Well I will say that it does not give a kick you in the ass in provement, though I do feel it! I have it with a FIPK GEN 2 K&N. So mine is staying in for right now!

I also got in on the free stack with the Volant air box deal. I had it in the last few weeks and took it out also last weekend. It was also not inside the throttle body when I decided to check on it and I thought I could hear it rattling around a few times on deacceleration. The clips provided to " keep it inside " are at best minimal and of course I immediately lost one during the installation process with the Volant. My truck definitely runs better now without it.
As they say in life - nothing is free ! and it will stay off . To bad it won't work as a beer can holder! ???
