Just had my Avy's oil changed. The dealer did not reset the Oil Life Monitor on the DIC, and he only lubed 4 of the 11 zerks. The dealer states this is not part of the service. Does anyone have a copy of the GM service manual for this service? Need it quick as I am going back to dealer today.(Please post a copy on this thread)

Side note, the dealer also, rotated my tires contary to my request - diagnol vs. front to back, and they stripped the nut for the tranny drain.

Thanks in advance.

If you purchased an oil change and lube the dealer should of done a little more lubricating if he wanted to follow GM's instructions. I think it is very common for the dealership to short-change you on a lube job when they are doing a cheap oil change. It takes to much time and they want to move them in and out.
I will post what my service manual shows for lubrication in just a minute.

Dealerships may have varied levels of "oil change" service that they offer. I know mine does, as do a few others I've dealt with. For example, a basic oil change is merely oil & filter, or for about twice as much money, a full LOF is all chassis lube, oil & filter, top off all fluids (check levels), check air filter, check tire pressures.

Perhaps their oil change didn't really include the chassis lube and the tech caught it partway through?

I paid $50 plus, as I had them use Mobil One.

Chassis Lubrication

Notice
Do not lubricate the parking brake cables. Lubrication destroys the plastic coating on the cable.

Refer to the illustration for the location of the lubrication points for the chassis. Lubricate the following components:

The transmission shift linkage
The park brake guides
The underbody contact points
The underbody linkage

FIGURE Lubrication Points (4WD)(c)

(1) Transmission
(2) Rear Axle Differential
(3) Transfer Case
(4) Clutch Actuator
(5) Brake Master Cylinder
(6) Oil Filter
(7) Engine
( Front Axle Differential
(9) Front Propeller Shaft
(10) Steering Linkage

Lubricate the steering linkage, the upper ball joint, and the lower ball joint.

unable to attach the diagram it is a bmp file and i dont know how to change it

What you paid isn't as important as what you were paying FOR. Mobil1 changes are more expensive.

I can charge you $100 for a washer fluid change. Sure, it's an overcharge, but if I drain the washer fluid and refill with new, I've done what you agreed to.

So, rather than answering with what you paid, what service did you actually request?

I have had a oil change and lube from a local dealer only once on my avy. The service was only 20-25 dollars and i didnt check to see if they greased the front end I was in a hurry. I know they put lube on the door hinges, hood hinges and hood release mechanism. Other than this one time I do my own maintenance that way I know that everything gets done. Some of the fittings are hard for me to reach but I dont have the truck on a nice lift like the dealer mechanics do.

Paperwork says:

Customer requests a LUBE OIL AND FILTER, TOPP OFF ALL FLUIDS, CHECK TIRE PRESSURE C/R USE MOBIL ONE OIL .. WIPE OFF EXCESS GREASE FROM FITTINGS AFTER LUBE

Thanks for the post I sent you an email, maybe you can attach graphic to email?

OK, so you should have gotten a full chassis lube from that description. Now, how is it you're sure they only did 4?

What's the story on the dealer stripping the tranny bolt?
Geez, can they do any thing right to your truck????? What the hell were they doing with the tranny??

I asked them to replace the tranny fluid/filter. I didn't even think to check the bolt until I came across the other issues. The bolt is badly rounded and has a gouge.

I inspected the vehicle once I got home, and the other zerk points are covered with dirty dry grease indicating that those were not greased recently.

Spotty,

Looks to me like your service rep and department is the type that is all too common at dealerships these days.

You know the type!

"Yes Mr. Spotty all was done as you requested."

;D<---------required screw the customer smile.

Personally, I wouldn't let them near my truck again unless it was warranty work and even then I would be on top of them like white on rice!!

Spotty, sounds like you need to have a one on one conversation with the service manager.

You say dealer, Chevy dealer or some kind of other dealer?

If it is indeed a Chevy dealer and you don't get satisfaction from the service manager, contact GM. They will get to the bottom of the whole issue since it is ultimately the GM name that is being hazed by poor service at one of their dealerships.

02-Z71:

Yes, it is a Chevy dealer in NH. I have an appoinment with the service manager tommorrow.

You are a very patient person spotty. I would have been back down to the dealership talking one on one with the service manager that day. But it is better to calm down anyway.

Let us know what the final outcome from the dealership is.

I'm not patient. I just have a bad cold and I am not going to work, so there is no way I am making a special trip, despite the fact I want to strangle them. My truck only has 3K on it and it get messed up already, and by a dealer!

I stripped the trans drain plug on my 02Sub. Its not hard to do. The screw head is thin and the flange is very large. The screw was in very tight. I ended up dropping the pan and drilling it out. They obviously should have replaced it, no excuse for that. They probably figured you wouldnt ever check it.
The problem of the ungreased fittings is common, I hear people complain about it regularly.

Update:

Dealer did the right thing! He listened to my issues, said he would speak with mechanic, And without even looking at the tranny drain plug, he handed me a new tranny drain plug and said they would install it during the next tranny fluid change. Dealer gave me a coupon for the next two Lube/oil/filter changes at no charge.

Overall, better outcome than I expected. However, I am going to start doing my own Lube/Oil/Filter as I don't think anyone does work to a standard anymore!

Thanks for all the information.

I know this is an OLD thread, but does ANYONE have the lubrication point diagram?
I am never sure if they hit ALL 11 points when they lube mine because I am not sure where they all are and I would like to get in to doing it myself so I make sure they are done.

this is the only one i can find  :(
