Was told Dual Exhaust can't be done... Seriously?

My exhaust is 100% stock and while it serves its' purpose I've been itching for dual exhaust but when I brought the AV to 2 of the local shops all of them said it couldn't be done due to the spare tire and gas tank and recommended just a muffler upgrade for 450$.
I'm sure it can be done and damn it to hell if I had myself a pipe bender I'd custom fit one. What gives with todays techs? Are they that inept or lazy?
Anyone in So Fl have a connect for this?

lots members got true dual.

hard part routing around spare but is done and some post had pics...

just scroll back into the real old threads in this section

I'm finding many of the old thread pics are missing. Probably due to online img hosting limits.

If you plan to keep your AV for a long time and don't want to replace your system frequently you may want to consider a CORSA performance cat back system, they make a sport version and a quiet version with same amount of performance. I have used that sport setup on my AVs since 2004 and never had a drone or rusting issue.

I could be wrong but I don't think any of those Corsa exhaust systems are a "true dual", just dual from the muffler or "cat-back", at best you get dual from a single stock catalytic converter back.. They can't change the stock two into one to a true dual and sell it unless it's for off road use only because it will not pass smog in any state or county that has checks or testing.. You can do anything past the cat, just not before..

And the muffler shops are telling you it can't be done is not that it "can't be done" because it can, they just can't do it legally because it's tampering with the pollution control devices on your AV and they can be fined or lose the license. I have 2500 AV and it comes stock with 3" duals all the way back past the muffler then into a single tail pipe, with dual cats (actually quad cats, 2 per bank) so I know duals will fit on an AV..

I know it can be done, owners on this site have done it but only if they don't have checks in their state or county.. I had friends in California that lived or had properties in counties that didn't have smog checks and registered their vehicles there and did whatever they wanted with no issues until they went to sell it, then they had to make it pass or sell it "as is" and make the buyers responsibility. But that was usually at a lose..

Good luck

STOCK 1500 has dual cats... one on each side just past manifold exit
Then it has Y @ muffler inlet where they join and then exit as one

Randy you are correct in that the CORSA cat back system is not a "true dual" setup. It is a proven performance system that has been tested and perfected over the years to work with AVs and the 5.3 motor. If a person is stuck on the idea of true duals then this may not be their cup of tea but if they aren't fixated on design but more interested in performance and quality with a lifetime warranty and want a system that is very easy to install by a shop or even by owner at home this is something to consider....

You should be able to do it then.. But with it not having dual pipes routed farther back in the chassis there might be some states that will look at going from a single to dual as a modified exhaust, I know California would they look at everything, a visual and the sniff test.. I live in Nevada now and all they do is the sniff test, they don't look at any adds ons to your motor as long as it passes the exhaust analyzer..

Thanks for all the responses. Florida doesn't have the inspection anymore and I can get away with duals in any configuration but yeah I have been thinking of true duals from the front to the back although performance isn't my reason for wanting to do it. More so that it'll breathe better and look better with the dual pipes. With 220ish on my lower end, performance isn't my thing at the moment.

Just finished my all SS true dual on my Z66. Used my 2013 Camaro X-pipe resonator and 2.5" pipes back to A-Karack 12" mufflers each side. Of course I already had Long Tube headers installed.

Just made the video today:

Here's another video.
That was what mine sounded like before the mini mufflers were welded on. They took some of the raspy sound waves out. Only thing about straight pipes is drone on the highway, other than that they sound mean.

That is why i always recommend Corsa cat back setup, specifically made to prevent the drone but give good sound and performance when you stomp on it...:devilish:

Randy:

Living in California I have found most sellers wont sell to us if it has anything to do with emissions, when I bought my intake I had to find on that came with a CARB sticker in order to buy it, even my tuner came with a CARB sticker to put in my drivers door jamb.

I have been looking a duel exhaust myself and seen warnings about non CARB compliant systems not for shipment to California and then a different seller with the same Part number more money says CARB compliant and will ship to California.

Yes, California is a pain when it comes to some aftermarket parts. Luckly when I lived there my sister lived in Washington state and if I really wanted something and they wouldn't ship to CA, I would have it shipped to her, and she would then ship it to me..

Just wait until you can't buy a gas-powered vehicle in California and the electric grid overloads, and you can't charge your car.. They're already asking you not to charge on hot days so as not to stress the grid..

Had true Duals with headers on mine for years. Local muffler shop dude did them, I literally drove
it from the dealer brand new to the muffler shop, never even made it to the house before I had the duals on it..
