I owned a '95 Suburban before my new Av and always had a problem with water leaking down underneath the mirrors after washing and wiping down the car. ?Well, I'll ****** if the same thing doesn't happen with my sweet blue Av. ?

Any good fixes out there? ?I drive around the block a couple of times thinking the air would blow it out to no avail. ?

Does the leaf blower trick in the magazine work for this problem?

Edited by Admin - fixed the subject line

This also happens to me on my Blue AV. I call this the dreaded drip. After washing and drying (using a micro fiber towel), I keep going around the AV until all drips are gone. One day I will get a leaf blower and try that.

My guess (GUESS) is that ANY high power air pressure method would blow all the air out of it - Canned air, any type of blower, etc.
Good luck - let us know if you find a good solution.....
Late.............

;D ;D ;D

Air pressure will work great, the car wash I go to in the winter has a air nozzle in each bay after drying it I blow out around the mirrors and all the upper cladding works great. I am going to install a quick couple outside my garage at home for the summer washes. Cant wait for summer

OK - couple of ways to address this issue:

1) Take a leaf blower and blow up and under there before you dry your Avalanche down. Also get around the top cargo boxes and the edge of the trim. It doesn't take that long.

2) Keep a bottle of quick detailer and a micro fiber towel in one of the rear cargo boxes for a quick wipe down when you get those nasty water spot dribbles (man do they show up on the Indigo Blue!)

3) Wax - lots of wax (helps that nasty water bead off).

Chief Avalanche Fan -

Do you use Zaino Products on your Indigo Blue Av? I just bought some ($100+) stuff last night and getting ready to use it.

Thanks guys for the tips. I have an air compressor so I'm going to try that. I'll keep ya posted.

Not yet - I'm waiting for spring to appear in Western Washington

In the last three weeks I've washed my Av once, and it rained two hours later. During that time I've taken three trips up to Stevens Pass - so right now my Av is brownish grayish with flecks of indigo blue

Well, I used my compressor to blow around the mirrors. Tought I was pretty thorough but ------ I still had the dreaded drip!!!!!!!

Anyone try something that really works?

I use the air compressor as well...I still get a few drips also...I guess the longer you sit there the better results you'll get...but who really wants to do that?

It is my impression that the mirrors are specially engineered to hold a small amount of water till you have put everything away - then release it. I am certain that some guy in a white lab coat is LHAO in Detroit as we complain. ;D

irontrain! That's a good idea, Monday when I wash my Av I'll give this one a try.

Blow with air. Then fold mirrors foward and blow again then fold mirros backwards and blow again then put mirrors in proper place and blow some more.

I use a leaf blower and it works very well.

When done I will inspect and use a micro fiber towel for any remaining water by kinda laying it flat against the seam and allowing it to wick away any remaining water.

:eek:Well i am just agreeing with everyone because my 95,97,2000,2001,all did it as well as my2002 . i usually dry it all off and of course hit this area 4 or 5 times. after all dry i take a ride 2 to 3 miles to get up to speed and come back and dry it off again and then in the mornign when i get up hit it again as i always wash my truck late at night, i can not sleep and my doctor told me to find something to do, so i usually do it after the 10:00 news. wife loves this as when i come in she is sound asleep snoring, easy out for her......haha

Tried YGMN's method of air - lots of air! Folded mirrors forward - blew; folded mirrors backward - blew; in place - blew.

This time it has worked well. Thanks for the tip!!

BTW - I'm another confirmed Zaino fanatic. Put 3 coats on Sunday, rained on Monday, and rewashed Monday pm. The shine is absolutely incredible Tuesday.

I am impressed!!!!

I really hate it when you wash you AV and then water just keeps dripping. Like from the mirrors.

Wipe ...do this... wipe again... do that...wipe again... I just got that damn spot. I hate it when that happens.

Where are the spots on the AV? and is there a way to stop it.

I dry mine using a water blade then I drive it around the block then do a wipe down with a chamios...it works for me.

is it the driving that does it?

i do that sometimes. but not yet with the AV.

is this water blade a squegee?

Check out this thread - they discuss the water blade and several members talk about a yard blower to get rid of the mirror and cladding water.
Water blade
Please continue to post here- I think you will find your answer.
Thanks, Richard

I'm not trying to step on your toes here, TexAvFan, but there are a couple of other relevant posts that I feel should be referenced as well.
? fast drying my black av
? Argh! ?Water Spots!
? Water leaking under mirror after a wash

The problem we are talking about is not drying the Av itself BUT drying the mirrors. The mirrors are constantly dripping post-wash as the mirrors collect so much water. The best solution is to use an air compressor or an electrical/gas leaf blower to force the air OUT of the mirror. Next time you go to the wash or wash the Av at your place, use your leaf blower and you'll be amazed at how much this helps blow the stray water out from your mirrors.

Dont worry about my toes :D I did include the blower idea for water around the mirrors and there are several posts in the water blade thread about the mirror water. I just thought that we should try and limit the threads on this to a minimum. Thanks for your additional info. ;)
