Weak Alternator

I have been wanting to add auxillary lights but as of now I have dimming with the aftermarket stereo when driving at night. Chevy obviously saw this as a problem and will be upgrading to 145amp alternators for 2003.
Anyone know if I should try to get one of these better alternators or get my original alternator rewound?

Thanks,

Rob

Rob,

You Must Really Have Some AMP To Have Dimming Problems.....

But, There Are About 4 Things You Can Do To Help......

1. Add A Large Stiffening Capacitor To Your Aftermarket Stereo System. Monster Cable.com

2. Add A Deep Cycle Marine Type Battery Like An Optima. Optima Batteries.com

3. Add A Dual Battery Kit From A Company Like Wrangler NW Power Products. Wrangler NW Products.com

4. Add A High Amperage Alternator From A Company Like 4Wheel Parts Wholesalers. 4Wheelparts.com

Hope This Info Helps,

Thanks for the quick response. I do have a 1000cca battery and a 1 farad cap. I'm worried that auxilary lights would drain too much power from the system as a whole, I believe the alternator to be the weak link. Could upgrading it mess with my warranty?

Only the warranty on the alternator and the charging circuit - no big deal - alternators die right after the warranty anyway. ;D

You not kidding about that! I liked it better when the voltage regulator wasn't inside of them, too.
