Weak Floor Boards

Has anyone noticed how weak the floor boards are? ?On the driver's side I have noticed popping sounds everyone once in a while if I move my left foot up and down, having my foot butted up against the drivers seat and door. ?Yesterday decided to investigate it a little and pushed on the floor pan from the top and bottom. ?The top was a little spongy and replicated the popping. ?Went from underneath and knocked and sounded really strange(very hollow sound). ?Definetely not built like my 83' Monte Carlo SS.
 
I haven't noticed. It must be the new aircraft materials they use. ;D
 
I do not have this problem.


Wonder if maybe your floor pan was not pressed correctly to form the strengthing ridges???
 
I do not have the problem. My suggestion is go to the dealer and check out another Avalanche or two. If you don't find this problem go to the Service Department and report this. as an issue. You may have stumbled on a serious problem with your Avalanche as my floor is rock solid...

Sorry but I also have not noticed this problem. The only thing that I feel is kind of weak on the Avy are the strength of the leather seats. I weigh 180 pounds with 9,000 miles on the Avy. The drivers seat has already formed creases. I guess this happens with all makes and models of leather seating!
 
As far as the weak floor boards, I can't say I noticed anything abnormal...but I will check this out for I agree if this turns out to be an issue I would like to get it fixed.....

powersung...as far as the leather goes...I'm 5'10 193 lbs. and after 4,620 k on my Av I also have creasing already....just a fact of life I guess..
 
For them seats apply leather conditioner more often to help prevent the wrinkles.

Also try Leatherique product as it is very good ... Expensive but very good.
 
Sorry this thread has sort of changed directions talking about the leather. Just wanted to point out that the leather GM uses feels extremely thin and of low quality. As far as creases/wrinkles, seems to me that shouldn't happen for quite some time. Hmmm, my 88 Nissan's leather (120,000 miles) still isn't showing creases (although it finally started coming apart at a seem last summer).

Here's the question... if this leather ends up being as cheap as it feels and it goes and wears out quickly (coming apart, etc), say, even before the warranty is up, you think that is covered by the warranty or will they try to pawn off the old, "it's a wearable item" excuse? What makes it a poor excuse is everything, engine included, is a wearable item. Whattya think?

The driver's seat on my 98 Montana wore out on the side bolster. ?The foam collapsed and the metal frame rubbed through cutting the fabric (I realized it one day when I felt something sharp in my side). ?I took it to the Pontiac dealer and the region rep took a look - they replaced the seat material under factory warranty even though I had 45K miles on my van.

My dealings with GM, both from what I've read here on the club and personally is 98% of the people and dealers now actually do care.
 
That is great to hear. My dealings (or my family's dealings) with the GM dealers in the 80's were so horrible I vowed never to get a GM. Obviously I made a huge exception and all my friends and family are still asking why (so do I occasionally). GM and the dealers seemed either so incompetent or crooked back then. It is reassuring to hear that others are having positive experiences now. Thanks for sharing!!

Actually, the sound that you hear when you press on the floorboard is an "Emergency Audio Tin and Metal Environment" or EATME. It is still highly protected as a secret among the GM engineers. It was developed to send out morse code in the case you were ever caught in an "Avalanche".

Now that the secret is out amongst you low life truck owners, you will be receiving detailed instructions on how and when and where to turn yourself in to the GM authorities. When you receive your instructions, please move quickly to your departure point. Bring the following items: Owners Manual for any Chrysler Product-(used for lavatories in the de-sensitizing stations), an old baseball bat, (for the next guy that asks me if I have change for a friggin' dollar), and your Avalanche payment book--(so you can stand on it to see over the crowd and know whats next).

Hey Nate - agreed. My dealings with GM when I owned my S-10 were not all happy. I had huge problems with the dealer, with Detroit, and ugh, the horror story I could tell you about GMAC. GM went through some kind of internal evolution or revolution it seemed around 1999 where they said, "heh, I guess we need to really care about and listen to our customers."

I don't know if a little Saturn rubbed off of GM or the bleeding of market share and some of the Roger Smith drones retiring out brought on the change. When I had my one minor issue with my Avalanche and I called about it I felt like they were going to send someone down from Detriot to gratify me in a carnal way just to make sure I was happy. It felt really weird to be first (ummmm, is this Chevrolet I'm talking to?)

If you want an eye-opening experience go over and lurk at the Ford ST site. You'll think you're reading from GM, circa 1990 over there. JD Powers showed it best, GM is number one in quality and I have to admit 10 years ago, I'd thought that was never, ever, ever possible.
