Weak idler arm repairs

True enough....it is always the big tires first....till you get a little rough with the truck and drive it the way it was made.......then the education begins....only bad part is my better half says we could have gone for a cruise ship holiday instead of the current mods.

I try to keep all the mods compementing each other and go for a functional & strong package that will take some casual off roading next time some whiner and his Range Rover starts with the yapping off.

Guess  its all about what you expect from your truck and what pushes your buttons.

That's a good philosophy to follow. I'm really surprised that more people did not post that they were having issues. That just goes to show how well made our trucks really are.

I wouldn't go there.

I know how and when mine broke.  I'm willing to bet less than 1% out here have or would be willing to do the same thing.  It is a weak link.  Being that they're made for the masses, many will never see that issue.

Tie rods are the same, especially if launching hard in 4wd.  It's not a matter of if, but when they'll break.

I'm buying parts one by one as the budget allows for this project. Does anyone have a template for the triangular-shaped brace?
I'd like to go the route of having the thicker one made.

Just finished the cognito support kit mod. It is a night and day difference. Don't you wish the Engineers at Gm would have made this set up a little better. It is an issue for all gm trucks lifted or not.

You know, the timing is ironic on this.  I just ran across the template that I cut out of a 6-pack box of beer the other day.  Decided I didn't need it anymore since I have mt Duramax now, so I tossed it.  Sorry.

I wouldn't use the supplied brace as a template either, as it didn't fit real well.  I would highly recommend adding the flat plate to the triangular one, as that provides much better support and will eliminate all flexing.

So how is this Mod working out!
I am working on getting parts together for this soon.
Have worn idler & Pitman arms.

Bump……… first time poster but this happened to me tonight. So I’m glad to see that this has been an issue in the past. I just got done reading this thread and I have to say @BUDMAN that was some solid work.
