I have kept my last several daily driven vehicles until they surpassed 250K miles.
I don't really care what the model years are.
I just recently purchased the 2003 Z-66 1500 and it had 242K on it at the time.
The most miles of any used vehicle I have ever bought.
Usually, I am beginning to look to get rid of them once they get that high.
Having driven that truck over the past several months, I do not regret that purchase, in the least.
But I do keep my fingers crossed.
Up until the EXT, I had not replaced any upholstery, but I have replaced all of the front seat leather in that truck.
The seats in my 2003 Z-66 are the combo leather and cloth, which The Seat Shop does not offer.
Thankfully, they are in pretty decent shape, considering their age and mileage.
I am certain I will have to visit an upholstery shop if I feel the need to repair or freshen those seats.
Or perhaps find some good seat covers or just change out to full leather.
I am resigned to the fact I most likely would not be able to maintain a perfect match between the front and back seats.
And that's OK.
For the most part, I have been able to acquire mechanical repair parts with relative ease.
Using the parts lookup site I mentioned above, I have been able to find any interior and exterior parts I have so far looked for.
Not always on my first pass, but I continue to check back from time to time.
Luckily, I have not had to find body parts due to an accident.
That's always been my biggest fear this whole time.
I was able to find replacement used body parts for my old 1993 Ford Explorer when it was involved in an accident, so that is encouraging.
Both of my trucks now have over 230K miles on them with the Z-66 approaching 250K.
I understand that keeping both of them in the best shape possible is going to be a challenge going forward.
But, I have purchased my last new vehicle and I either keep these old heaps running or I find another old heap to begin fixing.
At least I know what I have with these two old hoopties.
