Okay, here is a little background...

Monday April 14th, I took delivery of my new 2003 Charcoal gray metallic 1500 Z71 AV. Loved it - pretty much decked out, premium seats, premium bose stereo, moonroof, convienence group, etc... Anyway, Saturday April 19th, Taz placed a brochure on my windshield at a local Sam's Club. When I got home (and unloaded all the goodies from the AV) I went to the computer to checkout this "CAFCNA" website. Once I got there, I was loving it....

Started reading post after post and looking at viewers rides. Joined the NEO chapter. Already been invited to two different events. (Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome). Yesterday (Monday the 21st) I decided I had read enough posts about how cool the amber DRLs were and decided to run out and get some. Had to go to a few different places, but eventually I found them. Made the switch, what an improvement, talk about making a nice vehicle even better.

So drove it like that the rest of monday and today, and kept trying to decide if I wanted to do the underhood 2003 1-wire mod for full time DRLs.

Well, as I am sure most of you guessed, I did it, (while I was in there, I also did the 1-wire 2003 mod for simo HI/LO beams). So needless to say, this thing just keeps getting better and better. (y) Thanks to everyone who posted all the great information: WesTexAVY especially for two detailed and straight to the point instructions for the mod on the 2003. Also thanks to XRover, and everyone else...

If anybody sees me driving around with amber DRLs during the day or night, in the Lorain, OH area, it is me, feel free to say hi.

Thanks again, I can't believe how much I have already learned... ;D

I hope I don't get flamed for this, but what in the world is such a big deal about Amber DRLs?

I've seen a few pictures, and I don't really see what people are so excited about.

I could be missing something, but...

???
I have to agree with Flapjack... I don't understand what the big deal is with amber DRLs.
Can somebody explain it?

Well I may not be the best one to take a stab at an explanation, but I'll give it a try.

The amber drls set those of us who actively participate in this club apart from other uninformed Av owners. You don't need to go to the GTGs, and you don't need to post to be a part of this club, and that can be appealing to some of us. It's kind of like a secret handshake, you never know when you might see another Av with ambers driving around, and I know I am always looking for them. It gives us a sense of community, of belonging to something different. Something a little less mainstream. Those of us who regularly frequent this site are not your ordinary owner. I believe that most of us are obsessed to some degree about our Avs, and desire to set them apart from the run-of-the-mill Av out there. This is the perfect site for us. There is a huge amount of info on this site, and the helpfulness of our members is phenominal.
The amber DRLs are a way of saying, "here I am, I am different, are you one of us too?" Unless you visit this site, you won't know that the ambers mean anything at all, let alone think to ask your question in the first place.

That's cool, and it's a pretty cheap upgrade...

I would do it specifically for the camraderie, because I don't think they look any better. In fact, it seems as if amber would be less noticeable than white.

Isn't that what DRLs are meant for?

If I do go with them, what is the best to get? I've heard the Slyvania's are good.... Do I just give the local AutoZone a specific part #??
