While I haven't seen what it's going to look like, I think I'll be taking the unlisted option 3 - the Claddless AV with cladding added. Asked the question in another thread if anyone knows what that's going to look like.

It is under Chevy Avalanche future and vision there are a few pics of the claddless AV

The cladding for the AV is the most intense design attribute that has come from GM. It makes the AV what it is, the Ultimate Urban Assault Vehicle. Without it, :D: I hate the look, makes me sick. It provides the protection needed for me and anyone else who drives on any road or highway. Protects from careless individuals when they park to close and open door :8: GM should rethink the option for claddless AVs. If not, the truck should be called the 2003 AvaWhatInTheHellWasChevyThinking.

Don't candy coat it, 'Vader. Tell us what you really think!

I see a potential market for both versions of the Avalanche. I would propose a naked version called the Avalanche, while maintainging the armored version and re badging it the Avalanche Sport. Other items could also be divided between the 2 different versions, such as a road tuned suspension vs an off road suspension. Maybe the Sport version could have a rubber floor mat instead of carpet like Ford Sport Trac. I owned a Sport Trac for 2 years, and the rubber floor was great.

LOOKS LIKE SH*T! Why not just color key the cladding?
Man I love how the cladding looks and performs. GM is making a big big mistake. It just doesnt look as agressive and mean. KEEP THE CLADDING!

I agree, cladding gives this bad boy the edge on any truck that's out there....When I pull up in my big red Z71 people take notice :8: but then again we aren't the marketing department, we are just the PROUD owners that paid their salaries :B:

If you want to see something that I think is really ugly, drop by your local dealer and see if they have a 2003 1/2 ton in stock. Anyone reading the posts on this site new it was going to have the 'Av look' on the front end. Sounds OK, but you got to see this. The variations they have in materials and colors look real bad IMHO. THere are a total of seven different changes in materials and/or color on the grille and nothing to tie it together.

If Chevy doesn't put the cladding on, they could as least put the Avalanche embel on the passager and driver door.

That "thing" is just a Silverado Extended Cab Shortbed with a midgate - not a true AVALANCHE! :9:
It's not even a true Silverado, since the box isn't separate from the cab; this rig has an identity crisis!

What can I say?

It is nothing like what I dreamed about :C:

Why even call it an Avalanche? ?

Most of the accessory parts are going to be classified as Silverado anyway. ?

Next year will be even MORE interesting when it comes to ordering Avalanche parts :8: ?

Yeah, your right, still the Sub frame and unibody box - guess I just got grossed out and over reacted - still not that convinced, guess I am as bad as the 'Rado guys calling us B--- Ugly - sigh

What is Chevy thinking??? It looks like any other Silverado or Suberban.:9: It is the cladding that gives the Avalanche that unique look. If they want to change anything that should give the option to have different colored cladding. I was thinking about waiting for the 2003 model to come out before purchasing one. Now I am gald I didn't!

Yuk . . . this Av's lost its individuality! Not only is the cladding gone, but the lighting configuration is different -seems that all GM Silverados, Sub's, Tahoe's, and this new "naked Av" now share the same front end.

IMO, the only way to go in 2003 is with the cladding - that version has the same lighting configuration as the 2002 - much nicer look I think!

The same thing happenned to the Aztek, yes the wife drives an Aztek. Not that they were ever cool or good looking like the AV is, but the new one if AWFUL. Same for the clad-less AV.

Not Pretty,
MB-(

I guess that means that we will have a classic that much sooner!

O.K., I don't know if you guys ever spend any time at the other truck sites.

It is almost unanimous at those sites that everyone preffers the naked Av versus the armor Av.

Now, let's just say that everyone can have their own opinion and I'll give mine.

I currently have a 99 Silverado Z71 and the lease is coming up this Sept. I have never had anything against the Av, but I have always felt a little uneasy about the "controversial" looks. I mostly wanted the utility and passenger space. I feel like I can make a naked Av look as good as any 4x4 Suburban or Silverado out there.

Besides, my wife doesn't like the 4-door pickup look anyway and the extreme look of the Av turned her off even more. Since she will be driving it a good part of the time, she carries a lot of weight in the decision.

For me, it's between the naked Av and a Tahoe Z71. This gives me more choices and choices are good.

Don't hate me because I'm different. Accept me for my faults.

You guys are forgetting one huge advantage the claddingless Avalanche will have over an Avalanche with cladding - and it's bad news for us folks with cladding.

When it comes to accessories like bumper mounted winches, front receivers, etc. etc. etc. odds are the regular plain Jane Silverado components will slap right on to a claddingless Avalanche - that won't be the case for the units with cladding as we painfully know.

Just something to think about.

When I first saw the small picture I thought it was a picture of a silverado that someone had "enhanced". I think it loses it's brawny image without the cladding. Rounding the wheelwells looks stupid, too. I'll keep mine the way it is, in all it's intimidating glory.

I would not have bought one if it did not have the cladding, I hate door dings.

Those weren't the accessories I was thinking about but good point ;D

The Subs and Tahoes aren't getting the new front clip yet. They always seem to lag 1 -1 1/2 years behind that trucks in major styling changes.

It looks like a regular Chevy/GMC truck without it. With it, it stands apart from the conservative look of the GM c/k lineup.
