I'm looking to buy a travel trailer and need some advive as to what the forum experts would recommend as a max trailer weight. I've got the 5.3 1500 with 3.73's. The TT I'm kinda fond of weighs 4500 lbs unloaded and is 25' long. ???

Thanks!

Check out the towing and hauling forum. Many of your question will be answered there. I tow a 28' TT.

Here is the link that should answer all of your questions:

How Well Does Your 1500 tow?

I tow a 29ft Trail-Lite travel trailer with my new 03 AV with the 5.3 and 3.73 backside. I have just purchased the truck in September, but got one trip in from Michigan to Cedar Point. The duo seemed to perform quite well. Even had a stiff crosswind on the way down with minimal sway. I of course use an equalizing hitch with a sway control

Hope to get many more trips in once spring hits.

RedHawk! About 4,500lbs including trailer.

GD picture issues..... BTW, it is like it's not even there. save for on rough roads; then u get the propoiseing. I have got 13 before on the highway between here and Yosemite.

Here's my new TT that I'll be pulling with my 1500 with 3.73 gears.  Before the Prowler, I pulled a 30' TrailLite 8304-S that weighed 5000 to 5500 lbs with no problems at all.  Pulled it twice to Florida and back home to Michigan.

The new Prowler will weigh in at about 7500 to 8000 lbs loaded.....a BIG increase, but so far, so good with the Av.  I won't be setting any land-speed records pulling the new rig, but the Av pulled it home well enough (150 miles).

I'm getting Jesse Bubb to tweak my performance a little, and will be tweaking tow/haul performance as well.....I'll also be putting a new tranny cooler on before summer!

My trailer started out as a (7000#) car hauler, but I fenced it off for the later loads after I hauled my S-10 to AZ.

My next one will be one of these water hauler's. The tank will be black though. Hopefully I can have the jack toward the middle of the tongue. The 16' one is, and the tailgate doesn't hit it.

One fault with my place in AZ is the water. Wells in my particular area there are very scarce, deep and expensive to install (some have spent $40,000 on them, and one of them caved in after that).

So there's a community well there (free use). One needs a generator to run it's pump, a water pump to pump it into the storage tank at the house and for the convenience, perhaps mount a pressure washer - `Need to wash the Av too. So those goodies & plumbing will be added.

Full of water & loaded with the equipment makes it close to the max recommended wt. for the 1500 truck.

I have two trailers.
The first, is a 4x8 utility. It's pretty heavy duty, rated at 3000lbs. I've hauled gravel, topsoil, mulch, firewood.
The second, is a 16' open car hauler. Tandem axle, surge brakes on the leading axle. This hauls my '63 Nova.?

Sorry, no pics. :p

Come On Summer!!!!

2004 Keystone Cougar TT with two slides. It is 33 feet long and weighs 7400 pounds empty. I need to weigh it but it must weigh 8000 pounds when loaded.

Just got back from Myrtle Beach and pulled the trailer the whole way (680 miles each way). I traveled from Mount Vernon, Ohio to the beach and primarily used I-77 through the mountains of West Virginia and Virginia.

No modifications to the 5.3L two wheel drive 2004 Av.
Never used overdrive.
Always used tow/haul mode.
9.5 to 10.5 mpg all the way.
Pretty sluggish up the steep grades and usually ended up in second gear at roughly 4000 rpm.
No mountain or hill on this drive that it couldn't handle.
Tried to keep my speed between 60 and 65 mph.
Had to use trailer brakes EXTENSIVELY on this route as the grades down the mountains would burn up the AV brakes otherwise.
Never felt like I was out of control, even on the curves and in the wind.
Four adults (500 pounds or so) in the cab, so I was probably at CGVW.
I feel like I can drive this trailer anywhere except the Rockies.
What a vehicle.

Well, I picked up the KZ Jag travel trailer and took it out for its maiden voyage last week to Hershey PA.? The Av handled it like a trooper.? Dry weight is 4400 lbs, so it was probably 5400 lbs loaded.? It held the 65 MPH speed limit on all but a handful of long hills on the PA Turnpike.? In tow/haul mode it shifted up to OD when I could maintain 65 MPH (2100 RPM) or more and there was no strain on the engine.? Otherwise, it dropped down one gear and ran at about 2600 RPM.

2004 avalanche, tow package. no mods.

2007 trail runner, 5800lbs dry weight.

5000km round trip, no problems.

driving highway speeds. slow down a bit on hills.

using 3rd gear with tow/haul. pulls real nice.

Either my 17' ski boat, or my 18' open car hauler (various vehicles have graced it). ?Towing 6000lbs total + 500lbs in passengers (plus my 200lbs self) was quite hard on the brakes, as my electric brakes weren't setup at the time. ?Acceleration was a little slow, but quite bareable, and could still use overdrive.
