I tried to find a picture but now when I need it, I can't.  Anyway, I've got an 06 Ava and the little cubby hole over on the right side of the instrument panal next to the HVAC controls has the stability control button in it.

What does the Caddy have next to it?  I've seen a button there before but was unable to tell what is is.

Ok, got it now.  I know that it is an ultrasonic system but how does it work.  Does the thing "beep" at you and increase in frequency as you get closer or what?

Can't remember if there's an audible signal, but there are 3 little lights at the passenger side rear window/headliner that aid you.

It should beep faster as you get closer to object behind you

Yes, the switch turns it on/off to avoid the annoyance if you're towing or have the tailgate down.  It would be nice if it would beep like my wife's Ford product which is very precise and tells you exactly where you are.  Instead, it uses the same "chimes" sound as the seat belts, etc. which is much more "fuzzy" and indistinct; not nearly as accurate.

I agree with the fact that the noises are irritating but I used to just look at the lights at the rear to determine how close I was.

Double-checked, it is audible as well.

My 07 has this even though I would never turn it off

The only time I turn mine off is after driving in some powdery snow... it covers the sensors up and beeps every time it is in reverse  :E:
