What did you do to your Avalanche today?

Just found out Snowball is safe & sound in the garage today.:woohoo:As to clean, still to be determined.

Have spent last couple of days servicing my 2013 after reaching 100K miles (plugs/wires/transmission fluid and filter/front shocks). Pulled front shocks yesterday and sprayed some rust converter on the frame and letting that set before I can paint the area and install my new KYB shocks.

Also yesterday drained the transmission fluid (with help of cheap Harbor Freight Transfer pump) and dropped the pan. Now I know why all the shops quoted about $450 to do the transmission service as pulling the pan was a royal PITA. Fluid drained had a hint of red color, but mostly seemed dark brown. No metallic particles in the fluid. The pan was actually cleaner than I had anticipated with minimal clutch material in the pan and on the magnet. Got it all cleaned and reinstalled and filled.

Today I changed the plugs and wires. The plugs looked to really need changed and I do not think I will let it go another 100K before changing them again. The number 7 (drivers rear) plug is burning differently from all the rest. I believe 7 is one of the AFM/DOD cylinders, but I have that tuned out in the computer since the truck had less than 1000 mile on it. Am attaching photos of all 8 plugs and closeup of the #7 plug. The photo of all 8 has the plugs aligned as pulled with lower left being #1 (Drivers front).

Have granddad duty tomorrow so it will be Saturday before I can get the painting done and the front shocks installed. And install my summer tires.

That sounds good. Mine trans fluid at 100K looked about the same.

I heard that the trans pan removal can be a bit of a struggle and to either pull the exhaust down or loosen the trans mount and jack up the rear of the transmission.
The exhaust didn't move much so took the trans mount approach and only needed to lift it an inch and the pan slid right out.
Something to consider at your 200K (or less) fluid change.

My plugs had no deposits on them when I changed them at 100K (they looked like AC originals) but I had been running mid grade fuel for almost 10K before that since I had an 89 octane tune loaded. All mine looked exactly the same. Maybe the extra cleaner in the mid grade fuel did help keep things cleaner.

Finished up front shock install, put on summer tires, and finished filling transmission fluid. Took it for drive and the front end feels lot better with new shocks, think it sits little higher in front now.

During all this discovered passenger side valve cover seeping, originally had thought the rear main seal was seeping as the bottom of the bell housing had misting of oil on it but was able to trace it to the valve cover. Much rather change valve cover gasket than rear main. Also the rear differential seal is also seeping ever so slightly, fluid level fine. Have ordered valve cover gasket so will plan on doing that next weekend during oil change. The dealer has a service special going for coolant flush for $159, so going to get that scheduled so I do not have to hassle with it.

It's time to change my oil, but the filter will NOT budge despite trying hand, nylon gloves, socket for oil filter... and everything we can think of. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

We tried that on a previous vehicle and it tore the bottom of the filter all the way off. Thanks for the advice it may come to that.

Didn't try regular strap, have tried rubber French wrench. Nothing goin'. The top is just about stripped, so...

Good old rubber Craftsman strap wrench is what I use.

Thanks all for your suggestions. This is the first one we've done on Snowball and are pissed at the previous shop for this.
It FINALLY came off! But not before breaking an oil filter socket. I believe it came down to a 5" tow strap and a metal bar, though my Hubby did it after I'd turned in. Here for your viewing pleasure:1000080621.jpg1000080622.jpg1000080623.jpg1000080627.jpg1000080628.jpg1000080626.jpg

Yesterday\today fitted the dashskin on The Lady no before pictures.

Despite leaving on the dash for about two weeks & a larger than supplied tube of silicon, weighed down with heavy bags of silica desiccant (Wish Id got more of the bigger 1Kg bags) it still lifted up in a few places & the front definately at the ends need doing & stronger adhesive tap to hold it down while it cures.

That said.....
