What did you do to your Avalanche today?

So fellas this may be my last post on this group my truck was crushed by a forklift at work the other day. The bank is putting a fire up my ....about getting it replaced and with the way gas is going I'm going to have to switch to something smaller.
Some advice about an 05 Chevy Colorado that I found would be greatly appreciated. It has 232k on the clock top end rebuild on an I-5, and the tranny was rebuilt. Pretty solid truck little wear and tear.
 
i had an 07 colorado with 249k on it when it got totaled. i believe it had a lot of life in her still. But she was worth way more to insurance than she was to me. LOL. so i didnt fight them totaling it.

i had no major issues with it and i bought it brand new, so all quarter million miles were mine.
 
Took advantage of a 60 degree day here in Chicagoland a few days ago and installed that SLP Resonator bypass w/stainless tips I purchased back in December. Looks so much better from the rear of the truck not having that big can hanging back there and the dual tips are a nice improvement over the rusty stock exhaust downpipe. Don't really notice any more exhaust noise while accelerating/cruising without the resonator but standing at the rear of the truck there is a more noticeable, deeper rumble at idle which sounds much better. I guess I better get to shoveling that 2 inches of wet snow we got last night.

how did it get crushed by a forklift If you dont mind me asking?
 
hauled some large trash items off to a friends dumpster cople days ago.

Next up is HD run for some 12ft molding boards. remove rear window and lay on seat and shove molding thru open rear windo and rest on dash board - balance barely sticks past the CLOSED tailgate. easy peazy..
 
Today I wired second battery into system, put junkyard salvage main fuse between battery positives just as additional precaution. Don't run additional stereo equipment to need additional amperage but will help worry less when hooked up to the camping trailer or using the inverter without engine running.
Added additional grounding straps & re crimped new terminals on some looked questionable corroded possibly.
Still want to add a couple more grounding straps to be certain good conductivity through whole truck.
Switched out rear seatbelt receivers as plastic covers broke, color doesn't match but salvaged some from Pic a part/ wasn't much left I gotta get there faster to get new wire harnesses before jerks cut them all up.
Lazy jerks can't take lil time to remove connections properly.
Grinders not allowed but seeing grinder cuts through frame & harnesses frustrating especially when I'd like to get spare wiring harnesses just incase.
New ones too expensive one day I'll find some good to salvage.

Did find a cool tool that cuts this stuff easy - kinda like scizzors but one blade that comes down on a plate but has a edge to hold molding against that can rotate so you can cut 22.5, 45 & 90. carry it into area I Was laying the stuff so time saved not walking outside to big bulky miter saw

Plan to haul off my old office desk this week.

I found that same tool after watching some Youtubes on trim installation.

Remember, I am not a carpenter or anything close to that, so any help I can get is useful.

I ended up liking that tool so much that I instantly bought a better grade one over the cheap one I first bought.

My only complaint was the ones I bought neither allowed them to lock in a custom angle.

While that is not usually an issue, I did have to trim around a bay window and all of the angles there were not common.

But, I managed and that is why they invented wood putty, right?

Fill the cracks and gaps
 
Cut a 20" x 17" piece of steel from an old pool heater.
Installed the steel in the drivers side floor.
removed the temporary piece of plywood covering the "Fred Flintstone" hole in the drivers floor

I did the work alone, so there weren't enough hands to install it and take a picture..

My plans going forward is, the AV will replace one of my Corevtte's in the pole barn (stored for the summer, Vette on the road). Put the AV on the lift and undercoat the new floor and access the rest of the "floors" from below.

Impressive meatal work 👏, curious what was cause of the Flintstone hole in floor? Rust? Too bad wasn't under drivers side rear seat/ could have made a nice hinged access door for the fuel pump access.
I caused some additional TC's mostly air leaks after dropping my tank.
Think I should have tried making a access hole & door for future work ease.

Yes... Rust, I noticed while driving it the floor just in front of the drivers seat was "sagging" pulled the carpet back and a chunk about the size of a basketball fell out. To get thru winter I put a chunk of 1/2" plywood under the carpet

Years ago I had an '85 Ranger, It developed a similar hole, I never noticed it because my feet never went there. My (<5' tall) wife borrowed my truck, stepped on the weak spot and her foot went thru.. I made a similar repair then (thicker steel than OEM, and coated w/ rooking tar), I had that truck another 10 years, then sold it cheap to a co-workers kid, he drove it 4 more years until the fuel pump died, he junked it because he thought a fuel pump was too many $$ to put in it.

Fortunately the frame "passed" the hammer test, however the rockers and body under the plastic clad is rotted quite a bit.. I picked this AV for for next to nothing last fall. I have decided it is a winter only 4x4, saving my other truck for summer and towing my car hauler
I have the Avalanche running good, and I have most of the auxiliaries (that I care about) working, I still need to replace the right rear window regulator, and once I am able to "stand" below it I can more thoroughly inspect and address any rust that matters.

Related to access, While my son was at college (about 2008 or so) the shift pawls on his manual transmission wore out, (94 F150) apparently this is a known issue if you drive with your hand on the gearshift (apparently this is how the previous owner drove). Fortunately I had a shop manual for this transmission, I sent it to him.

At college (Michigan Tech. way up north!) he didn't have a garage, it was January and plenty of snow.. he cut a hole in the floor and rebuilt the transmission from above, using a portable electric heater to keep from freezing to death.

I had a 95 Chrysler LHS, to access / replace the fuel tank mounted fuel pump they provided an access plate in teh trunk, remove it, and teh fuel pump comes right out, w/o the hassle of dropping the tank.. I applaud that design, however since it only lasted thru 150K miles I frown on Chrysler quality.
 
Hey Avalanche fans, I just picked up (not literally :D ) an 07 AV. Used to have a Yukon years ago and had to get back to GM truck experience.
Thought I would try to see who's doing what to their AV daily. If this is already a post, I missed it and will delete this if necessary. Otherwise . . . . . What did you do to your AV today?
Evap purge solenoid. Again.
 
Finally got around to using the TC Fusion on my cladding. I bought it back in October had forgotten about it as I was dealing with other mechanical issues, including the brakes. Finally got the brakes fixed and across the bottle of fusion while cleaning out my office. I had just washed the truck yesterday, so I took it out and wiped it on. Took about 45 minutes and one bottle did the whole truck (two coats on the sails).

Really impressed with the results, as my grey cladding is now back to black. Very easy to use and cost me $27 buck. Jury is still out as to how long it will last, but very pleased so far
 
Got the front end put back together and the wheel well shrouds put back in so she's ready for the road once the Y-Pipe is done, and got her cleaned up. Not bad for 18 years and 136k miles old imo.
