What did you do to your Avalanche today?

Rear shocks (Arnott) and compressor (Dorman). Relatively easy job, looks like the original stuff had not been working for a long time.

You will be pleased with the Arnott gear.

I put Arnott shocks all around and replaced the burned out air compressor on my 2004 EXT back when I first bought the truck used in 2012.

Just this spring, the bladders on both air shocks developed air leaks and I replaced them both.

The system was still bleeding down overnight and further searching found the air pump was losing the air pressure as it sat.

I replaced the Arnott air pump with another one and now the system will hold air for weeks on end.

I got over 120K miles on the first round of Arnott gear.

That was longer than the original OEM gear lasted.

I'm good with that.

Gave her a bath and told her I love her

Good call! Did all of my fluids a while back. Today she got an oil change and a bath :p

Changed the front brake pads:
Plenty of pad left and brakes felt good, so I never paid much attention to the brakes.

But then the driver front pad got stuck and made a horrible screeching sound, luckily it was in my driveway and not 100+ miles down the road.

The coating had rusted away and was jamming up the slides, preventing the pad from retracting.

So I stuck in some the Carquest Wearever platinums and I'm back on the road

Replaced the rear bumper cover and the steel reinforcement behind today.Bought the truck in 2015 with a ripped cover, and found a new cover and reinforcement on a sales site here in norway in 2016.It was all new parts, but i got all the steel parts sandblasted and painted with 2component industrial paint. That original paint isnt meant to last under a truck. Now it looks as new behind that cover.

Had to winterize her....4" fell out from nowhere 20201030_112239.jpg

snow ALREADY!!!???!@e!@e!@e???

Move South Loggie!!

Well I cranked her up for her monthly drive to check on some property and see if I had any Hurricane ZETA damage.

I was lucky.

Hey Avalanche fans, I just picked up (not literally :D ) an 07 AV. Used to have a Yukon years ago and had to get back to GM truck experience.
Thought I would try to see who's doing what to their AV daily. If this is already a post, I missed it and will delete this if necessary. Otherwise . . . . . What did you do to your AV today?
Trying to figure out why my 03 won't start.

Sunday was a clear, cloudless day in the low 70's.

I washed the Avalanche and the Acadia.

Great day to be outside.

I Sold it 😑
hated to see it go, it it was getting rusty and high mileage.
GM, make the Avalanche again.

Yes, the Pass side rocker had a 2’long slot rusted rite through, and the dr side rear was shot. The cladding covers a lot of sins, but it’s still there. Mine was no cladding.
a couple years ago, I found the last year Cadillac ext, they wanted 48k. There’s no way. It had like 85k on it.
mine was 44K brand new.

I replaced the radiator in the Avalanche.

It really bothers me when I see a coolant leak on the driveway under one of our vehicles.

Pressure testing found the original OEM radiator in the Avalanche had developed a tiny leak at the drain petcock that would not seal up.

I figured with 17+ years and a quarter million miles, now was as good a time as any.

Besides, it was a beautiful day in the 70's.

Better now than have to do this in the dead of winter, I would think.

That's what I need to do very soon. It's been on my list but I keep putting it off. Going to do the entire cooling system while I'm at it - all hoses, water pump, etc. I'm thinking about going the electric fan route if I can find a shop that can program it. I love how easy it is to work on my Bimmer with it's electric fan.

I had already replaced all of the belts, hoses, tensioners, pulley's and the fan clutch back when I bought the truck.

After seeing the condition of the radiator up close, I think I made the right move.

The only leak was a tiny one at the petcock, but the fins had taken quite a beating over the years.

Ordered lots of parts. Water pump, radiator, all hoses and pipes, belt tensioner and idler pulley. Also received Liqui Moly oil, engine flush and motor oil saver. Hopefully everything arrives before Saturday. If so, next weekend is going to busy.

I like this kind of busy.

While sitting on line at the bank drive thru on Thursday, I noticed the a/c blower fan was not working properly in the Avalanche.

The only speeds that worked were 4 and 5.

Those are a bit much for all-the-time usage.

Some quick research showed the most likely problem was the blower motor resistor.

Finding there were a couple of possible parts available, I went out and removed the original to confirm I was going to order the correct part.

I would definitely say this OEM part is toast.

Note the date code on this OEM part.

How precise is that?

With the correct part configuration in hand, I ordered the ACDelco replacement part off of Amazon Thursday afternoon.

Shortly after lunch on Friday, I had the new part in hand and I installed it in the truck.

How can they do that so fast?

I understand one day delivery and all, but surely this is a rather obscure part that wouldn't be stocked just everywhere.

None of my local part stores had it in stock and I would have had to order it and wait a few days.

Oh well, such is the world of Amazon these days.

Here is the new, improved part with the ceramic coated circuit board.

I suspect this part will outlast the truck, if not me.

And here is the part number for the blower resistor on the manual dual zone a/c with slider bar temp controls on first generation Avalanches.

To install, you only need to remove the two most accessible screws on the lower passenger footwell cover and pull it down and out of the way.

No need to remove the cover completely.

The blower motor resistor is easily removed and replaced at that point.

I now, once again, have 5 levels of wonderful a/c comfort to enjoy.

Replace my rear Z66 Nivomat shocks.
See maintenance section for thread and I post a simple how to.

Washed the Avalanche today after doing an intense cleaning of the travel trailer too. I also used rubbing alcohol to quickly remove tree sap from the Avy and the trailer which I learned about online today. Didn't discolor the sail panel either.

Rubbing alcohol is the only thing that worked for me! Even goo-gone wouldn't touch the pine sap here.
