What Is It About This Truck?

:D Ok, I am not a pup. I have owned a LOT of cars...including a MB or two, a Honda NSX...and yet, this truck draws more darn love from me than any of'em!

Why? I mean, I am Zainoing it, buying mods (billet gas cap coming, XM radio in (and I paced while they were installing it...like an expectant father...worrying that they might hurt my big baby) and a American Flag bowtie...and no doubt, lots more coming).

I realized this feeling when I found myself going out for a bagel this morning, and I parked in the middle of an empty parking lot just so I could admire my truck whilst walking toward it. Go figure! By the way, I love the Flag Bowtie...I kinda wondered about putting the colors on my green NFE...seemed like red white and blue might sorta clash...but walking toward the truck, it looks like the bowtie is a mirror which is reflecting a piece of old glory...makes me all happy and proud.

Anyway, no one really needs to answer it...but darn, I love this truck, and I really don't understand why I do so much!

I think I know the feeling. I've been on this site trying to decide which mods to do, checking out club runs etc. and I don't even own an Avalanche yet. I think the appeal of the truck is that it is different. Before I saw the Av I was looking into a Isuzu Vehicross, it had cladding also. These vehicle look closer to the concept vehicles, before the car companies chicken out and water them down. Thats what I like about the Av, it different.

JV I know the fealing when I take mine to the shop for any mod I tell my sales guy " if you take your kid to the Doc. would you like them to use a band aid on him or duct tape, thats how i feel about my AV" in other words I want everything to look factory not butchered.

I agree. Here's another cool benefit I didn't realize when buying an Avalanche. You become part of a huge family at this club. Modding the Av and going to the cruises is a blast.

:B: JV,
This vehicle has changed my driving style......I used to be a fastlaner trying to set the Land Speed Record up and down the turnpike, but now I middle or right lane it, take my time and watch the reaction of those F150's and Grand Cherokees when they roll up next to me, then blow by thinking they've got it right and I don't - Now ALL the fun's in getting to where ever I'm going, not the destination. I look in the rearviews and see the sail panels and storage boxes and can't wipe the grin off my face. The only downside to this rig is wiping the fingerprints off the glass when I come out of the mall or Home Depot.

I can certainly relate to what you're saying. This vehicle is just amazing and gets so much attention. Like the print ad Chevy has run for the Av, with the Motor Trend truck of the year award and the line, "Like the person who drives this needs something else to show off."
It is mighty fun to drive it slow around town and watch the reactions, stares, and glares. You either love this vehicle or hate it....but just about everyone is astonished with its looks. I'm having a lot more fun than driving my wife's boring Expedition.

Since I bought the AV....that feeling hasn't worn off...sometimes folks get bored with things after awhile or when it is no longer a novality.....but your right there is just something about this truck that keeps drawing you back to it.... :B:

There's something to this thread. I bought my Red baby 1 week ago. Did the whole Zaino thing, (dawn, Z5, Z6 a few times, then Z-2 Z6 to top it off). I went to my mom's house today to drop something off. I actually yelled at her cause she wiped some dust off the hood with her finger. I said NOOOO!!!! YOU CAN SCRATCH THE PAINT!!!! OMG, this was my mom, the woman who bore me, gave me life, and I yelled at her over a truck!!!! This is not right. There is something wrong with me. The worst thing is, if she did it again, I would yell at her again...lol (god help me)

At WW 2002 we were exposed to awesome natural wonders - incredible scenery - tall trees - ocean views - obsidian mountains - and yet I'm sure we all took as many pictures of the AV's as we did the natural wonders. The AV gets you out there, in comfort, with utility and individual style, and with the ability to carry everything you need to get there and sustain you once you're there. Awesome vehicle.

I've owned more than a dozen vehicles in my life - never felt like washing the engine compartment till I got this one!

I'm not so sure that is a fixed proposition, although we haven't taken delivery of ours yet my missus started off saying that she hated the look of it... lots of research and some 10 months later I overheard her telling a friend about this "great looking truck her husband has ordered." ?

its funny to think how much i used to road rage with other passenger cars.

now i can run them off the road but i just laugh and wonder what the hell my damn problem was...

I saw, in person, my first AV about a year ago. I didn't think that Chevy could build such an ugly truck, or whatever it was. The more I saw them, the more curious I got and then when I finally drove one, I was hooked. That was the start of a 4 month quest to buy one. Then I drove 300 miles to pick mine up and I haven't looked back since. It is not "ugly" it is different, in a good way.....Have you noticed all of the "imitations" that are starting to show up? Looks like a bunch of "wannabes" out there now...but there will only be on AV !!!!!!

Yes the cheap immitations are just that....cheap immitations... There is nothing quite like owning an AV:)

I'm pretty much an old gear head. I'll try to modify my lawn mower to get more power!!!! This site is addicting my brother who happens to be the VP at my company calls me a loser when I'm online in the office. He just doesn't understand. I am going to be the mod monster with this thing. :B:

It is funny this thread was started. Just the other day my wife was commenting that I could not leave my AV in the parking lot without taking a second glance at it before walking into a store.I tried to prove her wrong while walking into Wal-Mart,but she was right. The pressure to look back at my baby was too intense,I had to give in! She gave me the "I told ya so " speech several times but who cares,it was worth! Is anybody else like this or is it just me? Just last night,I parked and went in sub-way.While standing in line,I was staring out the window at my truck. I guess the lady behind the counter caught on because she commented on my truck and asked me how I liked it. Even this past Saturday while looking at a house we are thinking of buying, the realitor was more interested in talking about my truck than about the house! My wife just rolled her eyes! She will never understand!

Guilty as charged! I still do this after owning it for seven months and 10,200 miles. In fact, I probably do it more now than when I first bought it!

My kids are starting to claim I'm acting like Cameron's dad in the Movie...Ferris Beuhler's day off. Obsessed with the AV

 It is amazing how EVERY single day, someone makes a POSITIVE comment about my AV! I actually took her 4-wheeling yesterday and got a little mud on the running boards and on the rear quarters. I should have taken her home and washed her before I went to the grocery store. When I came out, a guy was peeking in the window and said, "How could you take THIS off-road?" I laughed my butt off! That's what it's for, right???

When I was at the coast, I was eating in a restaurant and keeping an eye on my AV through the window. A distinguished-looking gentleman was walking around my AV over and over. Then, he went and got his wife and kids and showed it to them. This thing is as more of an attention getter than my old '69 Z/28!

Well, gotta go dust her off. I wouldn't want someone berating me in the parking lot again!!!

I feel so much better. I thought I was the only one. With the AV and the website, my wife gets mad and asks me if that's all I ever talk about so it is hard to keep it in. I have to tell myself- don't say anything Av related around her- its almost impossible. I guess I need help. There is something about this truck- I don't even like my kids eat in the truck and I am constantly telling them to be careful around it. I love this truck and not afraid to say it. Who's with me on this one.I guess I ought to atleast put my family's picture back in the wallet, huh?

I have a fellow contractor who keeps asking me about the truck. I told him to get rid of his F-150 extended cab and sget an AV. We went out to dinner the other night and his girlfirend was very impressed at the comfort and ride of the truck. So he asked her, what do you think? should I get it ? And she even said yes!! He complimented me on how clean it looked inside, and really liked the carbor fiber pieces. I'm going to post some pics of the interior. The only thing I'm picky about is that the dash and arm pieces of the carbor fiber are really a imitation even though they are molded. The center console is the real mcoy. The steering wheel matches the dash but is made by a different manufacturer and has a differnent tint to it. So now I have 3 seperate manufactured units and 3 seperate varioations of the carbon fiber. I can notice it because I am so anal!!! But you really have to take a look to see it. It's bugging me to the point that I feel like buying a whole new dash, wheel, and door controls to match the console. I AM SICK!!! SICK!!! SICK!!!! To day is Labor Day, I promised my brother (VP of the company) and my bookeeper that I was going to do paperwork today since I farted around Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Instead I'm on the AV website positing things all day. I'm going to catch alot of crap tomorrow!!!!

Do you think that we could a group discount with a "shrink"? This isn't normal.......but WHO CARES !!!!!!!
Gotta love the AV !!!!!!!!!!!

The other day, one of my staff members had a problem with his old Isuzu Pup. We tied it to the back of Big Blue, and towed it to his house. As we're pushing his little rig into the driveway, several neighborhood kids (under 10 years old!) came riding down the street and start telling me how cool my Av is, and how they liked "all the plastic stuff on the bottom... it makes it look really tough! Is it tough?"

Now I don't know about the rest of you, but when I was 10, I could've cared less about the actual style of a car or truck - let alone even noticed! And after having Lexus, MB, Toyotas and more - I've never gotten more compliments on any vehicle than my Big Blue Beast! :B:

Maybe we could get one to log into a chat room one night a week (maybe 2)

I first noticed the AV late last year. Then I started driving thru dealerships to 'browse'. I took the first test drive in Feb. I thought it was a little pricey, but I was hooked. I finally walked into the dealer in June, I couldn't take it any more I had to have one! I knew every accesory I wanted color, seats, everything.
Now I am a mod-a-holic, and I smile when I walk out the back door and see my truck. Even when I'm going to work! And I love this site!

The first day of Wild West 2002 we had 14 AV's parked beside one of the most awesome natural sites in the world, Crater Lake. First pics: of the AV's all in a row of course.

Personally I have always liked the unique looks of the AV. I don't care for the vast imitation that goes on in the automotive industry. In the last ten years all sedans started to look the same, same curves, same basic design. Yuck.

I hope Chevrolet is paying attention to what has been written here. It would be a crime to see a unique vehicle such as the Av, with what now could be called a "cult following", homogenized, sanitized and morphed with the ubiquitos Silverados, Tahoes and Suburbans.
