Hello,

I plan to buy 20 inch X 10 wheels for my new love, a 2002 black Z71.

The tires that come around them are 275/60-20

I saw these kind of wheels with a positive offset of 10. Tirerack wants to sell these size with a positive offset of 15.

So experts:
My question is: what is the best Offset for these wheels, so they don't rub?

Roel from Holland.

Added width tags since pic was too wide......we like em under 510pixels wide....Thanks Understood

You can do 285/50R20 on factory offset wheels, but, stay with the 20x8.5". With 20x10 the outer edge of the wheel will be exposed past the rubber. Stay with chrome also. Even though polished wheels are less expensive, the do not hold up as well. If you do decide to go with the 20x10 and do polished, you will scrape the rim every time you go thru the carwash. BAd, bad, bad.

@blavalache:

Thanks for your answer. I have to take the risk of a faltering polished wheels after time. Chrome is just too much for me. I already had my mind set on washing my black AV by hand. Those rotating carwashes we have here do evil things to a black car. My black Jeep shows it to everybody! :-[

I got a picture of a 20x10 wheel w/ tire and can see what you mean about the wheel sticking out of the tire so to speak. But it looks like the wheel is just inside the tire.

But I'll explore it. Minor problem is that this wheel+tire is 160 miles away!

Please tell me: I do understand your suggestion of the bigger wheel, but does lowering the side of the wheel to /50 not take all the comfort away?

Regards

I do agree with blavalanche regarding the tire size, but I have no comment on the rim width. You might want to do a search for 20 in wheels on this site. There is an ass load of members with dubs. That's a nice style wheel you have in that pic. If you get 22's I can recommend a good rim/tire combo, but not 20's. Also send a post to enkeiavalanche, he is in the "vehicle customizing business". He can definitely help you. Mikesav.

@Mikesaw:

Thanks.

I calculate you will suggest then 255/50-22? ;D (runs 0.4% too fast) or can the Av easily handle wheels which are way bigger?

I discovered with my Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 with 250 HP that with slightly bigger wheels than standard the power slips away very easy. The OD gets very nervous then.

But still: How about the ride with those low tires? Is it like driving a truck in stead of a car?

Yes I will search, but it's getting late overhere.

My 22's run very well on the street. The diameter is slightly bigger than the stock wheel. Honestly, the truck rides like poop in the slightest bit of gravel, but runs smooth as a baby's butt on the road. The decrease in side wall on the tire is not forgiving on bumps. If you have less than favorable roads, I would recommend the 20's with a good 50 or 55 series tire to match. Perhaps the 275/55/20 or a 285/50/20. I would recommend researching it a bit more and talking to enkeiavalanche for advice. Good luck, Mike.
