What Kind Of Wheels Are On Your Av ???

just when i thought i was satisfied with the factory rolling stock you made me change my mind. i went to your link, and the first thing i opened was the SSR replica wheel. i want it bad.

Go for it bro...those rims are definetly worth dying for.

My brother just put some new wheels and tires on his truck. Man they look goood! I showed them to mama and she said "not until you wear out your tires".

So between burnouts, I have been shopping online and trying to decide what kind of wheels I like the best and which styles would look the best on the AV.

So let's see'em... SHOW ME YOUR WHEELS!!!!!

Who thinks they have the best looking wheels???

These are Goodyear Wrangler MT/R's 305/70R16 sittin on 16x8 Eagly Alloy 146. It will be a couple of days before I put them on the AV.....waiting for my lift kit to come in.....I still think they look pretty sharp!

While I know mine are not the nicest or fanciest out there, I really like them. They are American Racing Outlaw II wheels with BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO tires.

Larger.

They were also very affordable. (Approximately $180 CAD or $120 USD per wheel.) My only complaint is that the lug nuts are beginning to rust but that is a quick, easy, and relatively inexpensive repair. I will try to find something in stainless. You can see that the only place the nuts are rusting is where they were cranked down, on the edges.

Anyone know where I could find some stainless steel lug nuts that would be a similar match?

Nice wheels,I bought the same ones a couple of months ago, wish I would have known you were looking for them. They were selling for $90 USD at Summit Racing. BTW, I was looking to replace the center caps with ones with a Chevy Logo. I emailed American Racing, never heard back. You havent seen these available by any chance?

As far as the lugs, I bought mine with the wheels at Summit. They are made by Centerline (Part #L5264), $7.50 per "5" pack, havent had any problems yet along with the chrome valve stems $4.50/pair!

I like that style! The wheels & tires combo does look sharp!! Thing for me is I have a Z66 so the off road tire would be out of place on mine.
I wonder if they come in 18 or 20 inch???

Speaking of wheels, does anyone know what the width of the stock 17" wheels is? I have a Z66, and am thinking about going to a tire size of about 285/60-18, and was wondering what would be a good width on an 18" wheel for a tire that size.

You can look at 20" Epic Blix by clicking on my profile link to Picture Trail.
One thing to remember when buy wheels is not just what they look like, but what is it going to take to keep them hat way. Stay away from small slots, dimples, etc, or metal over metal. Convex surfaces much easier to deal with. There are a lot of wheels that I like but they would drive me nuts trying to maintain them.

I have not looked into this but a friend with an '82 GMC Suburban has similar wheels from American Racing and is looking into GMC centre caps. I will ask him what information he has found and begin looking up on it myself.

Have you noticed any very minor rusting forming around the holes in the wheels? I notice just little pinhead-sized rust spots. They buff out easy enough and I can keep them maintained like this most of the year but during winter - the worst part of the year due to sand and salt - it is too cold to regularely go out and apply paste and buff the wheels up. So far I think it is just surface rust. The wheels have some sort of coating on them, but I am not sure what. I am worried that in a couple years, the rust will begin to spread throughout the entire wheel to the point of not being polishable. Of course, with the wheels being this inexpensive, replacing them every two years is not a huge heartbreak, but it is if it is avoidable.

I was quite certain I was being screwed where I bought my wheels and tires. In fact, I saw the entire set for approximately $400 less at a tire dealership instead of the offroading place I went to. But they were nice in the past, so I went there anyway. (Not anymore, though. $600 to only _wire_ in a set of PIAAs set me straight.)

Thank you for pointing me in the direction of the parts. Do you know what a tire shop charges to replace valve stems?

That was a big concern when I bought my wheels. They are not as easy to maintain as yours appear to be, but they are still pretty easy. Using the paste Chasman and myself bought, I can use my finger to get into the more difficult areas - keeping in mind that the machining has left some pretty sharp edges in the back - and wipe it easy enough. I find Q-Tips work well too.

BTW, it is looking like I am going to have to get down to Calgary one of these days to visit. Anti-Edmontonian bum, you. ;) Just kidding. :)

Havent noticed any rust yet, didnt mount the tires onto the wheels until March 1st as most of the winter season had passed. Up to this point have been just washing with mild soap and water. Probably get another set of winter tires (Bridgestone Blizzak's) and mount on the stock rims for the next winter in order to spare these the exposure.

Down here in our area they charge $50 USD to break down and mount a set of 4 tires so thats probably what they would charge to change the stems!

I was surprised to see rust on the lug nuts four days after having the wheels and tires and installed and on the wheels themselves in three weeks. :( Fortunately, the rust on the wheels buffs out easily, and as I mentioned previously, is just pin-points of rust.

Does Bridgestone make Blizzak's that will fit on trucks? I know that when I first bought my truck that I was looking at them but they made nothing large enough to fit. :( Though I believe there are other tire manufacturers who make similar winter tires that will fit. Something I have been considering too and will have to look into in the fall. :)

Thanks for the input and tire ideas. :)

Bridgestone Winter Duelers

Check the link above at Tire Rack, these tires use the Blizzak Technology. If you dont see your OEM tire size call one of their customer service reps and they will hook you up with an approved alternate tire size for your rims!

personaly I love the rims I just put on my avalanche. They won't break you pocket either. They are 16 inch rims. I think they look Sweet on my truck. >:D
