I need some help... :help:... I own a 2004 and a 2007 avalanche and Im not sure what model the 04 is....
The 07 is obvious...it has the Z71 on the side of the truck but the 04 has nothing....I am going to sell my 04 and dont know how to advertise it......Im sure it has to be obvious somewhere.....anyone??

Back in 04 there were no models Identification like the 05 up.

If you have a 4WD 1500 it's either Z71 or non Z71 if you have a 2wd it's a Z66 or non Z66. When the 05 came out then the LS and LT models came out.. Check the label on the glove box door. it will have the options.

To amplify what MS03 said...

There were four basic models, which can be identified by the sticker on the back fenders:

No sticker - base model two wheel drive
"Z-66" sticker - "up-level" two wheel drive
"4x4" sticker - base model four wheel drive
"Z-71" sticker - "up-level" four wheel drive

The differences are primarily in the suspension - going to the "up level" changes the suspension tuning a bit, primarily making it stiffer. For the Z-66 it also upgrades the shocks to a self leveling version, and for the Z-71 it also adds some skid plates. Z-71 also included thicker rubber floor mats, I don't remember if Z-66 did. There were some changes in the details over the years, and this isn't a complete list, but it gets the idea.

Not sure what you are meaning....

I have an 04 with the Z66 ident on the rear panels.

Wow talk about waking up an old thread......

The 2004 Z71 did not have a larger air box but it did come with what Chevy called a "High flow air cleaner". Some people thought at the time there was no need to get a CAI because of the better airflow over stock.
