What Options / Color Do You Wish You Would Have Gotten ?

ok, here's the deal. I don't own an Avalanche yet because I am extremely patient and cheap, I am going to wait until sept. or oct. or possibly later in the year and buy a leftover end of the '02 year model. I want a Z71 SOM or Red, interior doesn't matter, (leather, cloth etc.) and I am always open to a clean USED model. What I need to know from YOU is, what option do you wish you would have ordered with your Av? or, are you happy with it just the way it is ? TIA Dan

Every time I get in it I'm just as happy as the day I bought it.Every new mod brings even more delight. Are you sure you want to wait?
no, actually when I said that I was extremely patient, let me clarify that, I try to keep the Av out of my mind. I want one real bad but I have noticed the prices slowly slipping downward the longer I wait. I could have owned one 2 weeks ago, NEW out the door for $31,000. it was the wrong color though and had the soft bed cover. If I wait till the end of the year I will have more money to put on the down payment. $10k or so. This place is killing me though :C:

Option I wish I Had.......rear mounted machine guns
for tailgaters! ;)

:) What's Up Dan
Here is the deal when I went for my AV I was supposed to get the cheapest one available cloth seats 2 wheel drive, so fourth and so on if it wasn't for the 3 piece hard cover I would right now own the most expensive one on the lot fully loaded people kept telling me how you only live once if you'r going to finance then the hell with it go for it man. so you won't kick your self in the a--

Same here. I wanted 4WD/Z71, but that was about it. I was gonna get cloth interior (or the semi-cloth/leather combo), bench front seat, no Onstar, no roof rack, well, okay, wife wanted the running boards, yada yada yada.... Anyway, this was all to save money, right? I was bein' cheap and figured "Just get the truck, just get the truck..." Well, I brought my wife with me and she starts talkin' "How 'bout those leather seats? Hmmm... How 'bout those heated buckets? Yeah, the roof rack is nice too...." I was like "Geez, we just added $2000 in options!" And she said, "Ahh--I'm working--I'll pay for it!"

Rock on! By the time we got done at the "negotiation table" with the sales guy, she had talked him down another $500 than I would have using some "fuzzy math". She didn't even realize it was fuzzy 'til later. Oh well. They went for it anyway, so we got out of there pretty loaded (LOL), and no regrets since. It is true, if you're payin' 30k, what's another 2k in options?

BTW, to answer the rest of your question, I might have gone for the 4.10 gears. I was worried (seemingly unnecessarily) that fuel economy would be way worse, but apparently it's not too bad. Oh well, I don't tow anything (so far), so who really cares... Oh, and if the 2500s had been out when I was buying, I might have sprung for The Beast. But I'm happy with what we've got!

I wished I got the z71 option for bigger rims but i do love the cloth interior with full bench in front. i got this one because it was only 1 with full bench and only som on lot. every other including the z66 had leather buckets. i thought i wanted on star but after reading posts here a cell phone is alot better. 4:10 gears a must. most other musts are mods so have fun.

I wish I would bought a Z-66 package but because the dealer was advertising a new Avalanche for $1554. under invoice my GM gas tank $1K certificate was about to be reduced to $500, I took it and my GM card rebate and bought the base model for $11K under sticker. I figure I can buy some "take-off" 17" wheels and tires for the money I saved.

Mine's pretty loaded, everything but a roof rack & engine heater. I have no regrets.

Well, the XM Radio would be nice...

And the bose stereo with the in-dash 6 disc changer...

Adjustable pedals would be cool for my wife....

Power folding mirrors? Cool....

Ok, so maybe I should've held out for an '03.

Seriously, no regrets here. There will always be something out there you wish you'd gotten, so just take the plunge and get a loaded one now.

Had I had a choice on the 2002 I would have had a bench seat with leather - but that wasn't an option. I haven't had leather seats in a car/truck I've owned since 1989 so I really wanted it, especially with the little ones and there tendency to spill stuff.

4.10 rear end would have been nice, but next to impossible to find. Otherwise I have all possible options you could get and I love having them all, and use them, including OnStar.

However if you are frugal, you can probably go without, doubt you'll want to pony up the $199 a year...

My 2500 came with almost everything except the 4.10 - thats the one to get if you can and are going to seriously tow or whatever. ;D

I purchased a Z-66 and glad I did. Where I live there is really no need for 4 wheel drive. Some people have mentioned the seats. I sat in both the buckets and the bench and I had a problem with the arm rest on the buckets being too close to my side. I ended up with the bench and love it. Plus, it allows me to take one more person along. As for options that I should have gotten: Sunroof! I drive my AV opened up all the time and a sunroof would really add to that.

No regrets just wish I had an 8.1 supercharger. >:D
Thats easy to fix, just bring your checkbook. ;D

Put the Whipple on your 5.3L and you will think you have an 8.1L

I don't know which one to go with? I over research sometimes. I have the cash. ???

IMHO - & y'all know what opinions are worth.

1. Volant FIPK - best of breed and works with #3
2. The Other Guys Headers - needed for #3
3. Whipple Supercharger
4. Direct Hits Ignition
5. Magnaflow 12590 [or stainless version] to replace stock - keep the single side out - get a nice tip for appearance.
6. Upgrade torque converter to 2600HD and install Transgo performance kit - you have the right gears.
7. HPP3 to tune shift points, or custom chip to remove TQM

Hope that helps. ;D

Thanks gandolphxx that does help me but I cant decide what brand of supercharger? Why not a Vortex, they are Vortex engines? AJ ???

I got everything on my 2002, but thats not what I was going to get. I was going to go a little more bare bones and save some mony but after looking I figured if ur spending this kinda cash whats a few more thousand. No regrets getting loaded with leather. but the top 3 items that are a must have for me
1) Z71 Pkg (need 4x4 for winter driving)
2) 4.10 gears (from reading all the posts)
3) Power sunroof (I love the open feeling)

The Vortech Supercharger is a centrifugal, check with TByrne - our performance sponsor - the Whipple, a twin screw, does fit and gives instant boost. You may want to also look at the Magnacharger - it has models for your truck. ;D

gandolphxx, this may be a question I don't want to know the answer to, but... how badly does the Whipple effect the fuel economy (if you could call it economy).

Skidd 7;)

Fyrefyter - this sounds like exactly what I recently did.. was just waiting till the right time.

Thing is - incentives are great right now.. and plenty of good deals to be had. My dealer had many AV's on the lot in basically any color I wanted.

Here is what I bought.. 1500 Z71 - cloth interior, buckets, assist steps and roof rack. No other options

Okay.. sitting at my desk looking at my contract..

MSRP - was $36,225
Invoice price this model and options - somewhere around 31K (which i verified)

I paid $29,289 after $2500 cash back -

The AV comes with a great list of options included already, vs. other vehicles (hard covers, tow package, etc.)

Moral of my story is take advantage of the rebates and go find yourself a great deal.. you may not find the right truck or deal if you wait too long..

The twin screw only costs about 3HP when bypassed - no bog deal - but when it kicks in, thats a different story. Normal driving will not hurt you. If you are a lead foot, well, then it will use those other two fuel injectors. ;D
