What type of exhaust should I use for my truck? 02 2500 av 8.1 Must be stainles & easy to install . Any body have any suggestions? :B:

I've done the searches and I'd like to know which exhaust system is best for my 2500. Any tips?

I'm in the same boat :D: and I'm getting sea sick. Ultimately, I would like a muffler with dual 3" inlets and dual 2.5" outlets for my 8.1L.

Haven't had very good success on finding such an animal.

my 2? worth...
- figure out if you want true dual system first.
- determine which can (s) you want to run
- now you can have the pipes made by a good muf/ shop.

IT'S AS EASY AS ABC, that's my 2?.

G.

watch out with too big of pipes...
Your torque WILL go to S**T!!!!!!!!!!!!!

but you get the idea, pic the can your after, that will give you the tone your looking for (but don't forget it should help your over all performance)

Gene, thanks for you comments.

I went to a shop in TX that I've doen some previous dealings with and found this.....

Magnaflow-aluminized muffler-
3.00"dual inlet & 3.00"dual outlet
5x11 22" 28" 19lb 12599 $116.50

My idea is to go twin 2.5" outlet piping on to one side, NASCAR style behind the wheel coupled with twin rectangular Gibson tips. My exhaust shop owner buddy told me that thiw will help w/ TQ & HP along with good sound.

I'm also concerned about loosing TQ on the low rpm range. He said a dual 3" after the muffler would kill my TQ.

I also found this in a stainless steel configuration with the same muffler size but with dual 2.5" inlet/dual 2.5" outlet.

I'm not sure which one to get now. I do plan on adding the K&N FIPK II cold air intake setup and other fun power mods.

Perhaps the 3"duals will be good for future mods. Any comments? (meaning dual 3" inlet/outle muffler, NOT exiting pipes)

BTW- here is the URL to the shop in TX for those interested...

John, again my 2? only!!
First I run true dual
2nd. I like the flowMaster (never liked the Mag)
3rd. 2 1/2" is what I would be setting up
4th. if your looking for a biig outlet, that ok it's only a tip which can go over the pipe about a foot back. So it will appear as though your runningbig bore pipes.

I have a friend who own's a custom muf. shop and he has done a lot of work/test for me long with customs cans. Which some of the local menbers have heard on our May GTG. I'm pretty sure they would be able to give you some inpressions.

Again my 2? only.

Thanks again. I'm a flowmaster fan as well, have had them on all my GM big-block muscle cars and they work/sound excellent.

I have not found a dual 3" inlet/dual 3" or 2.5" outlet muffler from Flowmaster thus leaving my options towards Magnaflow.

You have an 8.1L with dual flowmasters into a true dual exhaust? That must be loud. I thought about running dual 70 series in parallel mounted vertically and running dual pipes w/ a small x-over but I was warned against it due to sound being louder/aggressive than a single muffler with dual inlets and dual outlets.

Appreciate your comments.

Ok I just checked the exchange rate and it looks like now I'm going to have to pay you for my 2? sence worth...LOL

As to the 3"in/out... don't woory about it, your buddy can flare them out or in depending on what you with.

My personal feeling on MAg. is mine alone. enough said on that one.

Right now I have an 5.3 Avy, decked out, My 8.1 Black Avy , will be here with in 10 days according to GM.
Once I do get here here first thing will be TOG headers no if ands or buts about that!
then I'll do some testing on the cans... most likekly custom.
The way you discribed mounting them "parallel and virticall is right thinking and you should run a X unit to balance the system flow out!

If you like, you can start a post in the "Region VI - Far North and Canada" ans just ask the question as to how my Avy sounded. And you should get an unbius opinion from them there were 11 Avy's in or GTG in May.

Again, bottom line is to try and get the best possible thing that will take care of the most important thing to you.

Excellent guys! Thanks for the links and the info.

Just what I needed for my exhaust project.

While I you guys are on this thread...(I know, I'm hi-jacking this thread with this question).. 8.1L intake modification.

UPD or Volant? I want the 'better' piping setup w/o the resonator box on the piping. I'm not familiar with either comapnies mentioned. What do you guys think?

TIA

Magnaflow and Flowmaster will tell you they don't have a good option for the 8.1 Avalanche.

The optimal system would be the Flowmaster 50 series big block mufflers in a dual configuration with an equalizer pipe in the 2 ? inch pipes ahead of the mufflers. There is a 3? offset inlet, 3? center outlet muffler that Flowmaster makes that isn?t even listed in their catalog, and you can just adapt the 2 ? inch tailpipes to the 3? outlets.

The problem is, these mufflers have a 5 x 12 inch case. On a standard Chevy PU, with an 8.1L, it isn't a problem to run two of these beasts on their sides (narrow end down and up). There are better clearances on the standard pickup (upwards) so these large case mufflers will fit with adequate clearances.

Anything else we have tried (and we have tried plenty) resonates in the cab. If someone in your area can get this number #53053, have him put your vehicle on the hoist and see what your clearances are mounting two on their sides.

These are absolutely the only performance mufflers we have had any luck with on the 8.1L?s as long as you build an equalizer pipe, and run two mufflers.

well, here is my two cents on this thread (I have the 5.7 liter).

I was able to visit muffman at his shop in North Portland and check out/listen to his set up (a single inlet/dual outlet Flowmaster 70 -- see other threads for exact model numbers, sizes and such). Anyway it was totally what I was looking for. Just the right amount of rumble on the outside: noticeable but not obnoxious, even at start up/idle. He took me for a cruise and I was amazed how low the noise was inside while driving around. The radio volume was off so I could really hear just the exhaust, and we could carry on a conversation without any need to raise our voices. I really like his set up - compared to mine his is louder on the outside and as quiet, if not quieter, on the inside.

So my two cents is describe what you're really looking for and muffman can give you great advice. (y)

I would like to see what these things look like installed .

No, it won't. 2000-2003, the front connecting pipe ahead of the muffler on the Suburban is different.

For example, the kit number in Magnaflow for the AV is part #15724, and for the 5.3L Suburban the kit part number is #15665.
