What would you purchase as your next vehicle if the Avalanche did not exist?

frito not sure I would buy an all electric vehicle until things change in the battery technology area. Reading your link, that truck only has a range of 120 -200 miles and then it takes 7 to 12 hours to recharge. Not sure I would want to go on long cross country trips or out into the boonies like that, not like someone could bring you a jug of electricity to get you home. Then there is the safety issue on electric vehicles in collisions, if system is exposed due to impact the occupants and first responders need to take extra care to avoid electrocution.
I know many people want to help the environment and operate a vehicle with low or no emissions when running but I have read where when you consider the heavy metal mining needed to make the batteries and then disposal or recycling process the making of an all electric vehicle is more dangerous to the environment over it's lifetime.
I also worry about how much it will cost to replace the rechargeable batteries when they loose their charging ability. It may lead to the first disposable vehicles since it may be cheaper to buy a new vehicle then replace the batteries. Sort of like cordless drills now........

Not that I'm in the market for a new ride, nor could I afford anything more than a Chevy Spark at the moment, but if I could, I think I would choose this http://www.bollingermotors.com/.  I love that they put function over form and how utilitarian it is.  I read that they're also working on a 120 kWh version.  I read that it's likely to start in the $60k range, more than a Jeep but not some radical $100/$200k vehicle either.
Will it pass DOT to be street legal?

I do not see airbags?

Interesting and reminds me of old scouts...

wonder its OFFROAD range...

Gross vehicle weight is 10,001 pounds so airbags are not required.  While many may not be happy with that, I'm fine with it.  I imagine that off-road range would be comparable to on road unless you were using the low range.  The ground clearance on the thing is massive.  I think it'd be cool to see that thing on the Rubicon.  Oh, and reminding you of Scouts - I think that is what they are going for.  They wanted a classic design that ages well vs. a super modern design that will look old in five years.  I love its simplicity as I find beauty in simplicity.

Oh, and I would love how quiet it would be offroading.  While I love the chest thumping roar of stock cars at a NASCAR race, I prefer to take in the sounds of nature when I'm camping.

THat thing is GVWR 10,000?

What is it made out of LEAD?  Oh yeah battery power...

Seems soemthign that heavy would not do that well down here in the swamps, mud bogs etc just sink to the frame....

Cool idea though...

Been a long time since I've been on this site.  But Ruby (2008 LT3 Z71 4x4 Avalanche) has finally had to be retired.  I've had an Avalanche for most of the past 15+ years and wish I could have another one.  But since they don't make the Avalanche any more, I had to make a choice.

Ruby and I took a trip to Arkansas, towing a 6000lb trailer.  She did not like it.  Heck, she is 77 years old (in dog years).  And unfortunately, she performed like it.  She's great for around town and in the dirt, but just couldn't handle the towing.  There were some hills I wasn't sure she was going to make it over, getting down to 40MPH (in a 70 zone), over heating water, oil, and transmission temps.  She needed to be put out to pasture.  I hope she'll be happy with the new owner (I left a note in the owners manual to call me).

Traded her in on a new (to me) 2015 Silverado LTZ Z71 4x4 w/6.2L engine.  Haven't named it yet.

I traded to a 2015 F-150 Lariat FX4 Sport 3.5 ecoboost Supercrew 3.5 years ago. I like it but it's no Avalanche. I miss the bed versatility the most; a 5.5' bed is just not long enough. I do really like the 3.5 eco power and 20 mpg highway mileage at 80 mph, with 33" tires. I also like the much higher ground clearance.

R.I.P. Ruby

Yep, spent that Thursday night taking (almost) everything out of her.  Man, I had allot of stuff in there.  It was like doing an autopsy on your own child.

And not everything fits in the Silverado.  I bought the underseat storage bin already and that took about 1/2 of it.  But I've still got allot of stuff from the saddlebags that won't go anywhere in the truck.  I've been thinking of buying 1 or 2 of these:

I don't drive mine as a daily driver any longer, but I still prefer to drive it. But I think sometime next year I'll be look into a 2017 Sierra 2500 HD for work duty  but keep the AV.

Hmm, just saw this video  Even though it's rated at 10,000 GVWR, it only weighs 3,900 pounds, much less than the Avalanche.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=isihD9qi_tI

I just gave my 2005 1/2 ton avalanche away.Rust was not my friend. I just got a 2018 Silverado.1/2 ton Z-71,LTZ Black edition. It is nice. But it is nothing like my AVY.The avy was plush with a much better ride.If they kept making them I would have bought another.

I bought my first Av in 2007 just after my divorce. Kind of a gift for myself for surviving it. It was a gently used 2004 z66 2wd, black, 30k miles. I loved it from the start. I don't drive a lot because I work from home and it was a great stable mate to the 2007 corvette I just bought also.

Recently started thinking of selling my old AV. It has 90K miles now and starting to show it's 15 year age. Steering box is manual on some left turns. Some new sounds/rattles in the last year also. My new wife and I want to pull our new home build travel trailer (from a cargo trailer) around the country and want something to tow it (only about 2k pounds). So we thought about SUVs, cross overs, pickup trucks, etc. I even thought about a new Colorado with the turbo 4 cylinder. But I can hear my buddies now saying, that ain't no real pickup with a 4 banger! And not a mid-gate in the bunch.

So last weekend I found a absolutely pristine 2012 Avalanche LS with low mileage. I tried it out and it was like driving a brand new Av. I bought it. What is the best replacement for an Avalanche? A newer one. I'm back in the saddle and smiling like a mule eating briers.

The best part? It is black like my old one and I tell all my friends that I finally washed my truck.

Oh, I finally joined CAFCNA too.

Anyone looking for a gently used 2004 Av z66 around Dallas, reach out to me.
