After thrashing on my car for 4 days I'm ready to leave for Road America, the only thing left to do is install the brake controller and go pick up the trailer.

I install the controller with no problems and get the trailer. the controller is working fine and just like it did on the other truck. The dot lights up when the brakes are applied without the trailer and the numeric setting light up when the trailer is hooked up.

We set out for RA and have no issues during the 500 mile tow. No issues on Saturday towing to the track, towing back to the hotel, or towing back to the track on Sunday.

The controler is mounted just the other side of the steering wheel from the E-brake release, so it is not in my face; you have to look at it to see it.

Towing with the Av for the 1st time we had some excess tow chain length and bungee'd it up some. We disconnected the hook up during the weekend to raise the ball height a tad.

I discovered during our fuel stop on the way home that my son had bungee'd up the chains and the electrical cord together and the cord had pulled out from the socket.

I fixed the chains and seperated the cord. The trailer lights worked but the brake controller no longer lit up or seemed to apply the brakes. When I manually slide the bar on the controller the lights lit and the brakes applied.

Whats wrong???

Now the dot (without the trailer) does not light unless the bar is moved and the same with the trailer hooked up.

I have ripped out my trailer wiring harness before and had the same problem after i rewired it. Something is not hooked up correctly on the trailer plug. Probably pulled a wire out of the plug or broke one of the wires. Are the brake lights on your trailer working?

My guess, same as above

the plug is locked in by a tab on the flap, so if the chain was pulling on it, it probably pulled the wire loose from inside the trailer end of the plug

Take the little screw out of the side and push the cable forward thru the plug and see if any of the wires pulled out

HINT
instead of bungee-ing the chains
JUST ROTATE THE CHAIN IN YOUR HAND, AND IT WILL SHORTEN THE LINKS, SO THEY DON'T DRAG
