hi
here's one that has me about a double click away from my very own personal blue screen. i have a 2002 1500 4wd w/ locking rear. now 14 months in service and about 22,000 miles. the gauges, gear position indicator and odometer dont function at start-up. it takes some time or some action like shifting to bring them to life. then when this happens it seems that for the rest of the ....day ,trip, leg of the trip, whatever.....the transmission takes a siesta. it has no pull off the line, rides at elevated rpms, and when called on to really get up and go it refuses. if it were a horse i would lay a little tingle of the whip on it but the pedal is to the floor and no response, no giddy up, and certainly no more go than it feels like giving. what category this applies to is also some concern. trans or electrical. turning it off and waiting a bit does not help. but the next day it will be true blue for me again.
does anyone have something like this?
does anyone have something to suggest?
does anyone have something ease the pain in my brain

IGNITION switch.....

Do a search for IGNITION SWITCH in the body of threads...peeps will state they have had similar problems..and it was the ignition switch that was bad....IMO

Good luck

Are you attempting to fix it yourself? I'd have already limped in to the service department if it were mine.

Let us know what the problem is when you find out, and good luck :)

I have had the same problem you described (mine is a 2002 Z71 w/30,000 miles). Sometimes though, I get the transmission trouble even without the instrument panel glitch. So far, I have been able to pull over, stop and turn the engine off. After waiting 10-15 seconds, I can restart and everything works fine.

Very Strange.

ignition switch......way too many peeps who describe same problem end up having ignition switch replaced by dealer.....

I took my Avy in today to get the problem fixed. This morning, it had escalated to the point that I had no fuel gauge or PRND321/odometer light, SES light came on and the message center said my engine oil was low (but it's not). And of course, the tranny went totally goofy with hard shifts at first, then stuck in first gear. Had to shut down and restart about 5 times before I could drive normally.

I mentioned to the service tech that I had heard the ignition switch was causing these sort of problems.

Service tech just called to say that the "PRNDL Switch" on the transmission was faulty and was replaced. We shall see if all goes well.

Bummer! :E:

Picked up the Avy from the dealer and drove about a mile before stopping for a minute. Got back in and guess what...Same Problem!

Gonna take it back in the AM and hope for the best.

OK. My 02 just had same symptoms. I drove for about an hour and all was well, stopped by the house for a minute and when restarted and pulled out of driveway, the thing was stuck in 2nd or third and once up to speed did not shift and ran at elevated RPM's. This has occurred a couple times in the last week. Same time frame, wife says that gauges got all goofy, dissappeared, came back on...

Seems that the general opinion is the ignition switch. Anyone have a GM part number and price?

Yesterday the dealer re-looked at my Avy and then replaced the ignition switch due to "known problems." Why didn't they just do that in the first place? I mentioned the recommendations of the Forum but....

This was handled under warranty, at no charge.

Service Dept never listen to you. Even if you are a qualified mechanic and done the hard work for them, They must do it by procedure or no payment for the work from GM. There's been a few times I say it needs this part and orderer it and have it ready to replace. But NO, they must do thier check, send you home and make come back in a few days. I love it when it is the part that is bad that I tell them in the first place, especially when it is thier third attempt to fix it.
