Not interested in opinions I'm wanting to hear from someone that has actually done it. I have a 2011 4wd and I have read that I can hold the 4wd selector all the way right for 10 seconds and it will disengage the transfer case making it safe to tow. I'd like to put it behind my RV this summer. Anyone?

What does the manual say?

It requires the (optional) 2-speed transfer case. YGMN is spot on as usual. The owner's manual details this.

Four-Wheel Drive Vehicles with a
Two Speed Automatic
Transfer Case

Use the following procedure to
dinghy tow a four-wheel drive
vehicle with a two speed automatic
transfer case:

1. Position the vehicle being towed
behind the tow vehicle and shift
the transmission to P (Park).
2. Turn the engine off and firmly set
the parking brake.
3. Securely attach the vehicle
being towed to the tow vehicle.
Vehicle Care 10-93
{WARNING
Shifting a four-wheel-drive
vehicle's transfer case into
N (Neutral) can cause the vehicle
to roll even if the transmission is
in P (Park). The driver or others
could be injured. Make sure the
parking brake is firmly set before
the transfer case is shifted to
N (Neutral).
4. Shift the transfer case to
N (Neutral). See “Shifting into
Neutral” under “Four-Wheel
Drive” for the proper procedure
to select the Neutral position for
the vehicle.
5. Release the parking brake only
after the vehicle being towed is
firmly attached to the towing
vehicle.
6. Turn the ignition to LOCK/OFF
and remove the key—the
steering wheel will still turn.
After towing, see “Shifting Out of
Neutral” under “Four-Wheel Drive”
for the proper procedure to take the
vehicle out of the Neutral position.

Shifting into Neutral
To shift the transfer case to
N (Neutral) do the following:
1. Make sure the vehicle is parked
so that it will not roll.
2. Set the parking brake and apply
the regular brake pedal. See
Parking Brake on page 9‑51 for
more information.
3. Start the vehicle or turn the
ignition to ON/RUN.
4. Put the transmission in
N (Neutral).
5. Shift the transfer case to
Two-Wheel Drive High.
6. Turn the transfer case dial
clockwise to N (Neutral) until it
stops and hold it there until the
N (Neutral) light starts blinking.
This will take at least
10 seconds. Then slowly release
the dial to the Four‐Wheel Drive
Low position. The N (Neutral)
light will come on when the
transfer case shift to N (Neutral)
is complete.
7. If the engine is running, verify
that the transfer case is in
N (Neutral) by shifting the
transmission to R (Reverse) for
one second, then shift the
transmission to D (Drive) for
one second.
8. Turn the ignition to ACC/
ACCESSORY, which will turn the
engine off.
9. Place the transmission shift
lever in P (Park).
10. Release the parking brake prior
to moving the vehicle.
11. Turn the ignition to LOCK/OFF

Thank you. I read that but haven't tried it yet. My manual wasn't specific on how to tell if I have the 2 speed transfer case. I suppose I just have to try it and see what happens.

Does it have 4 LO & 4 HI = 2 speed.

Owners Manual error: I just tried to put the transfer case into Neutral for flat towing and it DID NOT WORK following the 2012 owners manual instructions. I did a search online and found that I need to wait to put the transmission in N WHILE holding the 4WD selector dial to the right. Basically instruction #4 should be #6a. That sequence works as expected.

I'm a little late to this party but I flat tow my 2012 LTZ behind my diesel motorhome. We're traveling cross country right now. I have the transfer case with 2h, auto, 4h, 4L. If you look very carefully you'll also see a cutout N on the dial under the 4L. You hold the dial all the way to the right until that N blinks the slowly let it go to put it in neutral. I always put the selector in D and R just to make sure it's actually in neutral before towing. Sometimes you have to hold the dial to the right for quite a while. I sometimes have to try it a couple times before it goes in. One time I couldn't get it to work at all but I contacted a Chevy tech and he said to disconnect the battery cables, touch them together, and reconnect. Tried it and it worked.
