A pic is worth about $400.  Check your brakes!  These worthless scraps are off a 2003 w/ 50K on them.

Only a few days, actually.  The chunks and flakes were coming off during removal.  The center third was worn about 3/32 more than the inner & outer so the pad was convex.  The inner & outer thirds were not a smooth rotor surface.  They were pretty close the the rusty crap you see in the pic.

Wow do you drive it allot or is it mostly parked

yuck.  I'm debating upgrading my front brakes while I have everything apart this week.

looking at them I'd think you'd feel a vibration in the pedal also

All I really noticed is excessive effort to stop.  The front's were fair, but it was the rears that were gone.  The inside pads were down to a 1/16 at the edge, but still had some decent thickness in the middle.  On the front, the outer pads looked 20% worn, but the inside pads were about an 1/8th and beveled.

Check the rears.  I have a friend (2003 also) who has gone through two sets of pads on the rears and none on the front.  He always told me the rears wore fast and I didn't believe him because from the outside, my rotors always looked visually acceptable.  I was surprised once I saw the shape of the inside pads and the rotor to match it.

Sometimes I got a slight pulsing at the pedal.  All the excessive wear was on the inside face of the rears, which is covered up by that thin metal shield.  I did notice a lot of rust on the unswept parts of the rotor.

I got the SSBCs from Truckperformance.com.  Seemed like pretty speedy service.
The slotted rotors and hawk pad kit is nice, but still noisy.  I think I need to check on the position of the retainer clips and make sure they are centered properly.

Wow, i have just over 50,000 miles on my AV and the brakes are still runnin great. Nothing like what happened to yours, thats crazy!
