I have a 2004 Chevy avalanche z71 5.3 and it has 140,000 miles on it now.I was driving down the road and out of no where it just died on me,All the lights and radio still work fine but it just clicks but won't turn over. The battery is brand new and I tested it it works fine so I changed the starter and got the same results just a clicking sound and won't turn over.I thought I blew my motor but flywheel turns fine still,it's got power new battery new starter and lots of other new parts I have put in 5 grand on the truck to keep it running. The only thing I haven't done is check the electrical cause it's now having problems with the head lights won't shut off when I turn truck off or the dash lights till I mess with the switches and my steering wheel is making a weired sound and the shifter feels really lose .can something in the ignition make my truck just die while driving it down the road Please I need help.

Kinda sounds like the ignition switch module is bad.
Try swapping the starter relay.

Could be bad ground to injectors. Grounds hit the block on the drivers side down low. Look for a black wire hanging, as i recall it is probably a single wire in protective split loom. Vibration causes it to break off and losing this ground kills your engine rather quickly.

Well it turn out my motor seized up,it don't make sense to me at all cause it didn't make a noise or throw codes nothing it just died like it ran outta gas,150,000 miles on it only .so I bought a new engine for it a brand new on and get it back in a couple days,

Sad to see that.

So I got my truck back 7200 dollars to fix it,but when I got it back the a/c no longer works nor does my tow package.I called where I had it fixed and they tell me they don't know if they were working or not so they won't fix it,I said that's bullpoop because everything worked before its seized up and for 7200 you'd think there Manner's would be different.there's big scratches and dents on my truck all over too.I'm just at a loss for words.

Sorry to hear about your experience.

:((n)

That does suck, maybe they forgot to put the belt on the compressor

Thank you for all your input,I had to buy a new compressor, everyone tells me I should get rid of it because I put to much money in to it,I wouldn't get rid of my avalanche for nothing yes I've put in a lot of money in to her but I've never felt more comfortable in any other truck and I've had a lot of them..This truck has never let me down and so I hope to have it for many more years.thanxs everyone for your help.I'll post some pictures and tell me what you think.what do u think about getting a lift on it.

Everyone needs to make their own decision on whether or not their truck is worth the investment for repairs and/or refurbishments.

Your 2004 is over 16 years old now, but it is not worthless.

Especially if you like it and it suits your needs.

I have a 2003 and a 2004 and both are closing in on a quarter of a million miles each.

However, both of my trucks are in remarkably good shape (aside from the EXT currently waiting on it's new engine to be installed) and I am committed to spending whatever it takes to try and keep both of them in the best shape possible.

My experience has been that if you stay on top of the big stuff, you can eventually go for long periods of time without having to spend a bunch of repair money.

You are just going to have to spend the money now to take care of 16 year old worn out parts and such.

If the truck has good bones, then that investment will be worth it.

At least that's the way I think.

One thing that would sway me to thinking the other way would be large amounts of rust.

Where I live, rust is not an issue, so we can concentrate more on mechanical issues and refurbishments.

Older vehicles do not tend to scare me.

I hope things begin to work out and settle down for you and your truck.

Best of luck!
