I guess i'm the next one to part off here in a few days... so i guess i'll be seeing yall pretty soon! take care.
When are you leaving, Red? Whatcha gonna do along the way--it don't take a week to get to Crater Lake!

Take it easy,

Brendan

Well I've been following things on Weather.Com (aka the Weather Channel) and overall things look good. The only rain in the forecast for Wild West 2002 is a 30% chance of a thunderstorm on Friday at Crater Lake. Otherwise things look good - including on the California coast. Mostly cloudy and mid-60's - not a bad forecast for the misty redwoods...

Four days and counting!

We'll be on our way tomorrow am. Weather does look good Chief, and the fires seem to be staying clear of our destinations (close though; do they conscript fire fighters down there?).

We haven't received our package as yet, so may be travelling without it's contents. If it arrives early enough I'll have it sent Fed Ex to one of the hotels we're staying at. If not, c'est la vie! We'll pick up a parks pass when we get to Crater Lake and peer over everyone else's shoulder for the other info! Anything critical in the kit we should know about right away?

Check your e-mail on the critical information - I sent you a HUGE Word document with the goodies in it. As far as the Park Pass DON'T BUY ONE! Pay the standard entrance fee at Crater Lake and get a receipt. Turn it into me and I'll reinburse you. I'll pay for your access at Lava Beds etc. Least I can do as you've already paid for the pass and that's what the club funds are for any way!

I will have a replacement camera for you and a binder - I'm really frustrated that the binder has been held up that long, I sent the thing out on the 2nd of August - UGH!

Well - there are conflicting weather forecasts now -

There seems to be three different lines of thinking - with the wild card mainly being temperatures - with most of the impact being at Crater Lake.

School of thought number one is highs in the low 80's with lows in the 30's and a chance of thunderstorms. This is the forecast from Intellicast and TWC.

School of thought number two is highs in the low 70's with lows in the low 40's and under mostly cloudy skies. This is the forecast from Wunderground.

School of thought number three is highs in the high 60's and lows in the low 30's under mostly clear skies. This is the official National Weather Service forecast.

Again - the good news is the forecast is basically rain free. The NFS is worried that any thunderstorm activity in the area will be dry storms (no rain - just lightning) which of course would be bad for fire fighters. I'm hoping for forecast number three - ya, it's a bit cool but I like the idea of it being clear.

The good news is right now it does not appear it will be brutually hot down in the Klamath Basin - looks like back window out driving to Klamath Falls.

Bottom line - make sure you bring a sweater or something else to keep you warm! ;D

brmiller, i know it don't take a week, but i'm leaving for a 2 day thing with my brother.. starting in a few hours and i won't be back long enough to say goodbye, thats why i'm saying goodbye now. so.. bye? and see ya guys soon!

My dad and I are leaving on thers. morning I am counting down ;D I am bringing my Dig. Camera and lots of floppy disks to stor pics (y) on see you all there

Hoorah!!! Just finished the last little bit of work and ready to start packing. Ain't that the best feeling ever?

Not your problem we live in the great white north, Chief. Free trade doesn't seem to mean quick exchange at the border. Next time I'll give you my Fed Ex number for shipping. If the package arrives tomorrow or Wednesday, my business partners will courier it to whatever hotel we are staying at.

Thanks for the itinerary. I haven't typed anything 58 pages long since university days!!! Now we have an inkling why everyone is so impressed with the mail-out.

We look forward to seeing every one Thursday night!

Sounds good, BigRed... I was just curious where else you might be goin'. Probably already left, and won't even read this. Have a good trip with your bro' and see you later this week...

Brendan

For those who have not left yet--when are you planning to arrive Thursday? It's only a 4-hour drive from here, and I can leave anytime Thursday really. I just wanted to balance getting a good spot vs. being there all day by ourselves. :) Not that that would be a BAD thing. :)

Brendan

Looks like BigRed will be following us up to WW2002, We are planning on leaving at aorund 6:am Thursday. Should put us at campground between 2-4 depending on number of stops we make getting there.

Cya There peeps!!!

IF we leave at about 9am, we should get there close to 5pm. That is, of course, if we're flying the whole way.

Right now I'm planning a 6:00 AM departure. As the ring leader I feel obligated to be first there.

Weather forecast has greatly improved for Crater Lake and all sources are in agreement! Now calling on Friday for partly-cloudy skies with highs in the 70's and lows in the 40's.

The forecast for Eureka has slightly improved also with temps predicted in the mid-60's and although the forecast is calling for "mostly cloudy" the projected UV index is high - so I'm guessing high clouds versus low coastal cover.

Just a couple of more days...

Which day are you leaving Chief? I'm still running way behind, should be in central Oregon by now fishing but s&*# happens.

Hey Goo! just a quick note to let you know that I will be heading for WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
within the next 24 hours. The Chief has done an absolutely first rate job planning this. I predict a whole lot of cool pix from the festivities!

Chief, can we get a list of attendees posted? It'd be nice to know who to expect.

I don't want to turn this thread into another "I'm going too!" fiasco. I figure one post from Big C would be the best way.

I'll send it via e-mail to respect people's online privacy, posting the names here would violate the sites privacy policy

I'm leaving Thursday morning at 7:00 AM - I'm having to delay my departure by one hour because I had so much on my plate to do today. I've bought lunch for 37 times two, drinks for 37 times four, have some of the prizes (furious with Cafe Press as the mouse pads and posters I ordered aren't here), the tires are strapped on the roof of the Avalanche - the non-perishables are already loaded.

For emergencies I've got in the "support" Av:

1. Emergency off-road tire patch kit (professional grade)
2. Tow strap
3. The QuickAIR2 (good for fixing that flat)
4. Massive First Aid Kit
5. Two tool kits with sockets, torx, drivers, voltage tester, fuses, wire ties, connectors, etc. etc. etc.
6. Extra tie downs
7. Jumper cables
8. The two extra 265/70R17 Goodyears
9. 4 Quarts 10W30 oil (Pennzoil)
10. 2 stock 9006 low beams
11. 2 stock fog lamp bulbs
12. 2 stock DRL bulbs
13. Road flares
14. Duct tape

So we should be able to deal with just about anything that comes along (hopefully that will be nothing).

Well folks - I'm off to wrap up more loose ends - see everyone tomorrow!

Chief signing off!

i am back! wow! what an amezing event that was! hands down that was the most fun i have had in a very long long time. thank you chief for puting together such a great event for us. i'm sure this will be a very hott topic to talk about for a very long time. well just to tease some of you that didn't go. there was alot trail beating and banging... some of the bluest lake views ever. some high speed "rally" runs on dirt roads, and some not so rally runs into streams. (that rip yer rear bumper off and dent the front bumper and knock out your fog lamps and make your horn stop working! :8: ) don't ask... just look at the photos when they come back  there is tons more... we saw redwood trees beaches, the list goes on. well i'm glad to be back and i am ready to tell some stories!

This is just like TV news - we get a teaser and then have to wait on the full story :)

Can't wait to see the story

I got home at about 3AM this morning. I caught two hours sleep and went to work so all my pics are currently still in the camera.

I want to also send out what a fun time we al had and a Big Thanks to chief for putting up with us for so long of a time.

For those of you who missed this, you really missed an incredible time with incredible views and incredible people.

BTW it will take me some time ot go through all 170 pics I took. SO don't look for them too soon.
