P.S. Big Red forgot to mention his flat tire he had going home at 1:30 am >:D

I had a special screening last night.

The photos were awesome ;D

I will wait for them to tell the story ;)

that is true... and i also forgot... just like nascar the "big one" fish, flynhigh and myself all got into.. i guess you could call it trouble? a wreck? i dunno... lets say that a small water hole disagreed with our avalanches at 35 to 45 mph... all 3 trucks gathered damage in the front bumpers and rear bumper area. my truck got the most... (wonder why? maybe cause i was going the fastest?) both my fog lamp housings got riped out and my skid plate and tranny protector got bent up and my left rear bumper was torn off. plus i got a blow out at around 1:30 am on my drive home. to add to this story i was a lead truck doing some "rally" driving on a dirt road when a small ford ranger ran me off the road... and then ran into the side of chief while i ran into a dirt embankment only knocking the tow out on my truck while chirf had damage on his lower cladding, rear bumper, the rear side of his truck has a dent and a large scratch. but while this all sounds bad. it was well worth it! now enought with trucks breaking, up next more on the crator lake drive, getting lost many times "using the gps?", and yes... an avalanche caught on camera hitting the govener on a twisty dirt road... more up next stay tune!

well i guess i can tell a few more storys... i'm sure many people can fill in the gaps for me. but about 90% of us showed up to crator lake on thursday. we all got campsites next door to each other. and cooked some grub. and showed each other their trucks and goodies. ;D at first it was kinda hard to remember everybody by name... most convos went like... "so bigred did you and flynhigh drive up here together ?" but by night names where becoming familiar. we then met up at Chiefs site after... shall i say it? he came late.    and he talked a little about how we were to go about things. after that we chatted and ate smores (i think thats how they are spelled?) then we got going to sleep for that early departing time the next day!. end of day one.

~BIGRED

day two friday. we got together and headed up the short drive to crator lake. as we started the rim drive chief got lost... and we detoured the hotel... and then got lost again.. after turning around twice we were heading the the right direction! (y) the first stop to take a overlook of the lake was.. to me.. a shock! as you come over the hill and your first look at the most pure blue lake i have ever seen! it was great. lost of photos where taken and we haded down the hiking trail a little more to the next look out. flynhigh and myself got the best view at that point... as we walked a little farther out.. beyond where the trail stops. and we got the photos to prove it was well worth it. ;D after that we got back into are trucks and headed down to an area that i forgot the name of, where we saw how the lave created groves in the sides of a moutain. pretty cool stuff. after that we headed out to a few look outs lining the trucks up and grabbing lots of photos as we went along. i think around this time Chief took us on a small curvy dirt road, that was alot of fun... and alot of dust. :9: after a few more small stops we stopped at a tree covered picnic area were it went suddenly from sunny to rainy weather.. and we got a few drops here and there. then after a hour stop there we headed to the other side of the lake (stopping here and there) to cloudcap looks out point. a great spot to see the entire lake. the boat tour was closed due to rain so we stayed together as a big pack and headed back to our starting point and the visitors store. after that we split up into groups. fish, avlance, stealheadchaser, and myself headed back to the one way dirt road for the avalanche rally challenge. as we took our avalanches to and over the limits. the trial times were closely packed together... it was alot of fun to say the least. at times we took our avalanches to 65 + mph for seconds at a time! (you think that was fast... stay tune) after settling down we headed back to camp to enjoy a relaxing nights stay. i must add that flynhigh provided the best pork ribs i have ever ate in my life! after dinner we once again grouped at the chiefs site for a little game. prizes ranged from amber drl's to a tool kit. it was a ton of fun under to moon! we then got some sleep for the long drive the next day! end of day two

~BIGRED

day three we headed out of the campsite onto a beautiful senic road. and after a long hours on end drive (stopping at safeway) we got to the lave beds park area. well almost... see to get there you had to cross a very wide one lane 10 mile long dirt road. ok so after yesturdays rally event i think it was safe to say round two was coming. after talking with the chief.. fish and myself headed out to the starting line... as many other avalanche members got what was shouted over the radio.. "just the most encreditable veiw ever" as i started of heading away from the group i took a right turn... now heading sideways to view i took my av up to 95+ mph on a very straight road. chief said there were hundreds of feet of dust flynhigh behind me... then as the dust cleared fish followed me in. socalcindy has a great video clip on bot my av and fishes av crusing along! it looks like something outa a movie. the 10 mile long road was a long run to say the least. both fish and I finished around 5 min before chief who also tryed out some rallying of his own... another 10 to 15 min later the rest of the group one by one arrived at the indian american war site. we all took a small hike around the battle grounds. then headed back to our avs and drove on a road the ran side by side with the lava path. it was a great site seeing all of the black rock scattered everywhere! we had picnic at once again a tree covered area. and then headed out to the lave caves.

~BIGRED

next we visited many daylighted lave tubes. some as big as airplane hangers! one cave was even filled with ice!   it was very beautiful inside each cave. some looked like chocolate while others looked like gold and silver! all ranging in colors. after alot of fun in the caves we headed out for a very...very.. very very long dirt road drive. some how just before the drive a few of us convinced chief into a small detour for another slower paced dirt road rally... bad news. as i took the lead with chief closely behind me. i came around a turn a small white fast moving ford ranger was coming at me. not making any moves to avoid hiting me. i took the last route. i aimed my truck into a dirt embankmet between a few trees and just barely got by. but not slowing down the white pickup ran into the chiefs truck throwing him into a tree or something another. chiefs truck wasn't badly bruised but the left rear did need some work. after the small detour we headed out onto a long .. very long dirt road drive. well we started out as a group. but the dust was to much to take and we slowly broke up into groups as the chief made a few wrong turns here and there we still stayed in a line. the views were amazing! we even took a smaller dirt road where we took our trucks through a maze of fallen down trees, rocks and brush. it didn't help when shall i say the chief came on the radio saying "hey thats funny, the gps says were driving down some railroad tracks." but yes we made it onto some paved roads and got dinner in yreka. were most of us spent the night at the motel 8. end of day three

~BIGRED

well this should get some convos going for now. i'm bad with names so if somebody can fill my dirt roads and paved roads with names that would be great. in a bit i'll post about white water rafting, river swiming, and the casino girls... (pageing G00)

Yeah, yeah, yeah.... There were lots of digital cameras there. Here's some to whet your appetite. I'm still processing mine. :) Both of these were at Crater Lake.

14 Avalanches (our whole group) with Justin (AvaLance's brother) who walked into the frame just as I was getting the last shot of the panorama.

This is Crater Lake itself--and this is actually how it looked--it was kinda hazy Friday. Luckily not to much smoke from the Biscuit Fire, but still a bit hazy. BigRed and Dub takin' some photos on the edge.

More to come!

Brendan

Alright--I won't make you drool. Here's my whole stash minus the typical duds. Undoubtedly, other folks have some better pictures of the some of the same stuff, but until everyone gets their photos up, here's my lot.

brmiller's Wild West 2002 Picture Archive

Enjoy!

P.S. I'll get some descriptions/commentary up tomorrow. A few notes:
  • Day 1 was Crater Lake.
  • Day 2 was Modoc Indian Reservation, Lava Beds, and Caving.
  • Day 3 had swimming and rafting.
  • Day 4 was Redwoods on the Northern California coast.
  • Yes, I did get stuck in a ditch on Day 3. Mrs. brmiller (who says she will be registering here soon!) superbly spotted me and coached me out. We were delayed at Denny's and tried to catch up with the rest of the group. We read the directions "literally" and crossed a bridge to take a dirt trail that the rest of the group avoided. They also avoided the ditch
  • Yes, we did go through a big pond and most of us didn't damage anything. :)
  • The cute redhead in some of the pictures is Mrs. brmiller
All in all, it was a great trip with great sights/sites and we met a lot of great people. Can't wait until the next one!

Great shots Brendan! Tell me how did you avoid the BigRed type "field mods" when you got stuck in the ditch? Those mudflaps & assist steps got awefully close to the rocks. BTW, nice shots and nice spotting Mrs. brmiller!

I dunno. When Mrs. brmiller took the pictures and showed them to me "on scene" (while I was still in the truck with my foot on the brake), I figured we'd lose the mudflap and tear up the step. I really didn't care at that moment--I just wanted out! But Mrs. brmiller piled up enough boulders for me to drive up and out on.

We had a blast!

What a great trip! ?We had so much fun, and met some really great people. ?I found myself getting a little sad leaving the beach parking lot. ?I hope I see you folks in Moab next year!

I've got some pics here for your viewing pleasure. ?There are even a couple just for Goo! Let me know if anyone wants bigger copies for prints. ?The images of the kids on the beach are some of my faves.

Yes, I know there are a lot of pictures of trees. ?I just couldn't stop myself.

I can see from the photo's why you got damage - ouch

Before you go buying a new facia for the front wait until I get my new metal bumper to replace the AV's plastic - it might be just what you are looking for :) I just ordered it today and they are going to start the build proces on an AV very very soon... I told the GF after i placed the order and I didn't even get in trouble :)
