General conclusion working on Wild West - no one person will be able to pull together a National Meet on their own. ?It's going to take 5 to 10 people working very closely together...
I might be willing to help out with the National Meet ?;)

Chief,

Michael and I are amazed at the amount of work and effort, way above and beyond, you put into organizing this trip. We are very greatful to have you as coordinator of this event.

Is there anything that we can do to help? Do you have anyone helping when everyone arrives?

Nancy

Wow Chief! After seeing that table full of materials, and reading the itinerary, I would say that guy in TX who puts on those Sunday drives has a bit of catching up to do! ;)

NorCalNancy: Congrats on your new handle; now flynhigh won't be drawing on your input for his postings number!!

Steel: keep prodding that TX guy. Competition between him and Chief should mean the next meets will be in Barbados or somewhere else exotic. Perhaps we'll see DVD's in the registration kits!!

I've heard a lot of people offering to volunteer on the national meet, in the postings and during the chats. We should make a list of those willing to help. Maybe a new post for this?

It is already there, Chas! We just need to get it off of the back-burner! (Does anyone know what a burner is, in these hi-tech days of smooth surface halogen cook tops?)
Anywho, here is the original National Meet Thread

We are not competing!

We are working together to rally up a crowd for the National meet ;D

Maybe I could arrange to have all of our AV's flown to Hawaii and get Kalama to be our host ;)

Kalama will be riding shot gun with me to our first national meet here on the mainland! ;D

Well I'm on my way to the post office. Everyone's package is done and everyone got their t-shirts shipped out.

I would guess most of you will have them by Tuesday.

My home theater room is still a mess with the extras out there. Cleaning that up is my next project. :rolleyes:

Thanks again Chief

Yikes! Shipping ate the clubs lunch. The packages weighed over FIVE POUNDS each! There were three packages that were lighter, one because they are a partial registration so they don't get the binder and stuff, and the other two because they had really small t-shirts in with them.

I sent all packages two day mail (except the one to Canada), insured and with delivery confirmation. In the case of the package going to Canada it should arrive in 7 to 10 days - on the custom forms I put documents and tourism information so I'm hoping the custom weenies won't get their panties in a bunch (not to mention that the description is the truth).

A word of caution to all - DO NOT OPEN YOUR PACKAGES WITH A KNIFE!

I hate to hear that someone cut up their denim binders or worse cut up their t-shirts opening the package. Also because the contents in your binder will have probably shifted a couple million times I'd open it up on a nice flat surface. Honest, that stuff was neatly in the binders when it was packed! ;D

One of my favorite scenes in a movie is in the movie Dear God when the postal employees tell a temporary Christmas worker that speaks no English that, "fragile," means, "to throw very hard against the wall."

>:D

Chief, is anyone else besides Fish and myself coming from our area? I was thinking we could have a mini meet at the Lynwood or Chandlers Cove Hooters over wings and suds to pick-up our stuff. First rounds on me!

When exactly is this?

Hey guys... as you all know i'm going to the wild west meet, so I have a question to be asked. do you think it would be cool if I put a pair of usa flags (5x3) on two poles on the back of my av? I mean it's like 14 avs in a row... why not carry the american pride with us? my av all ready has a usa bow tie... and I am planing on having the rear window tinted usa too.

so i was planing on having two flags just at the rear in the bed... any ideas on how to attach them? so at high speeds there is no trouble? i'm not too worried about losing them. It's just i don't want to carry any problems with us or anything. Thanks for your feedback and i'll see you guys there!

Boar-Ral, CAFCNA Edmonton Chapter, has designed and fabricated a flag holder out of aluminum that might interest you. He just left for a long weekend camping trip, but I'm sure he will give you some info when he gets back.

The holder design wasn't as much of a problem as the flag itself. There aren't too many made that will hold together at 70 mph for very long without shredding.

well i'm still interested... but i won't be taking them to wild west, :cry: chief filled me in... and lets say it's not a good idea. ;D

Chief-

Just making sure we didn't lose another Avalanche. The total now says 13. Did you just take yourself and the "support vehicle" out of the total? It doesn't matter if you list 14 with support vehicle or 13 without; I just didn't want to hear that the group was shrinking...

Brendan

Yea I was only aware of us losing 1. We made it 15 on the 30th, so I thought the new total would be 14 ???

Nope we lost another Avalanche. :C:

Wish I had known on Friday so I could have save $15 on shipping the package out. :rolleyes:

So we are a more intimate group now. ;D

I'm interested in such a thing. I've been trying to figure out how to do this for a while.

Too bad about #14 pulling out. It's gonna happen right till the last minute. BUT....
We will be there, and we're looking forward to meeting with everyone. And we can't wait to see you all; after the past few months of reading your posts I feel comfortable in saying that we're already friends. All of us share a fondness of our AV, and all of us are keen for adventure! How can you argue with that?

We look forward to receiving your package, Chief. I am fond of maps, and have already picked up some great topos of Redwood National Park. Your efforts are greatly appreciated, and we'll make sure you'll have a great time too.

This is a copy of the Wild West e-mail that went out...

Campgrounds, Hotels, And Lodging
====================================================

Thursday & Friday at Crater Lake:

The Crater Lake Lodge and the Mazama Motor Village are completely booked. The Mazama Village Campground is expected to fill up by Friday afternoon. Thursday afternoon or early Friday morning arrival is critical.

Saturday in Yreka, California:

The group rate at the Super 8 Hotel is no longer available, but there is still room available at the Super 8. There are other hotels in Yreka available as well as two campgrounds. You can check out your Wild West binder and the Discount Guide included.

Monday in Eureka, California

Sorry, but we could not get a group rate at the Eureka KOA. There is still space available but things are getting booked up quickly. The campground is very close to US Highway 101 so if you're looking for a quieter location you may want to consider some of the state run campgrounds north and south of Eureka. You can read about them in your Wild West binder in the Redwood State and National Park information.

====================================================
White Water Rafting In Happy Camp, California
====================================================

We have made arrangements with River Country Rafting to have an optional river rafting trip available to club members. The cost will be at the reduced rate of $40 per person and includes a 3-hour, 7-mile paddle down the Klamath. River Country Rafting does not accept credit cards so your payment will have to be cash or check. For those who are not rafting, River Country Rafting has arranged berry picking, fishing, and swimming for us AT NO CHARGE. Major kudos goes out to Becca of River Country Rafting for helping us out and making this happen.

====================================================
Optional Boat Tour Of Crater Lake Added
====================================================

An optional boat tour of Crater Lake will also be available to club members. The cost is $20 for adults, $11 for children 12 and under, and free for children two and under. Tickets can only be purchased the day of the tour at Cleetwood Cove. We will be having our picnic about four miles west from this location so you?ll have an opportunity to buy your tickets early. The boat tour is just under two hours and explores the entire lake. You do have to hike down a steep trail to get to the landing and hike back up. You'll return in time to have dinner and attend the Friday Meet and Greet.

====================================================
Friday Meet & Greet
====================================================

Special kudos ALSO goes out to the National Park Service Public Affairs Office that has waived our group use permit requirement at Crater Lake National Park! Our Friday evening Meet and Greet will be held at my campsite because the park's amphitheater will be in use during this planned event. Because we do not have a venue to have the mixer it creates some special issues.

To help things go smoothly please don't drive to my campsite because there won't be adequate parking. If you are camped in a distant loop your best bet is to drive to camp store, park, and then walk to the campsite. Also make sure to bring a chair or blanket to sit on because the one picnic table at the site will fill up fast!

====================================================

Thanks everyone and be watching for your next update. We?ll be seeing all of you at Wild West 2002.

Wow!!! Chief you went to a lot of work just got my stuff in the mail you have every thing one person would need keep up the good work

Thanks Lance - glad to hear that the package has already arrived. I wanted to make sure that everyone was prepared and could continue the route even if they got separated from the group. When I've done personal trips I've prepared similar binders for myself.

Thanks for the kudos, it is very much appreciated as it was a TON of work pulling those things together. The Lava Beds National Monument info I had to do myself because the park wouldn't send my brochures. I was also bummed that Crater Lake didn't send me the black NPS fold out for the park - they told me they would. However those newsletters have a TON of information in them.

Not much longer now - just a hair more than two weeks!
