Window Color

A lady in my office bought a standard Avalanche 1500, black in color with graphite cloth bench seats. I bought a pewter Z71 4x4 with graphite leather seats. When we parked them side by side, we noticed my rear door windows are tinted a very dark shade. Hers are a light shade, the same as the front windows.

In all the documentation I explored on the internet, and in Chevy's glossy brochure, no mention is ever made of an option regarding the tint of the windows. Nor is there any note of these windows on the sticker that came with my car.

Does anyone know why I got the deep tint windows and she did not? I really like the dark ones, and am just curious what Chevy is doing. Also, anyone buying an Avalanche might want to check this out on the vehicle they are considering.

What a coincidence, I ran into the same thing yesterday. A lady drove by, and the rear windows were "naked". Barely any tint just like the front ones. I've heard of it being like a $100 option on other vehicles, but did not no it was part of the Av options??

The Av definitely looks better with tint, especially limo tint

Early production Av's were shipped without the privacy glass. If they review their paperwork and find privacy glass listed as installed option they can press the dealer to do a free tint job. They didn't get what they paid for.

The next time I'm at my dealer I'm going to alert them to the fact that a Z-71 they did a dealer swap on has the OWL tires on the sticker, but no OWL tires. I'm sure the swapping dealer swapped the wheels/tires out - the bastards.

I have heard of the rear window on some early ones not being the dark tint....but not the side.....I wonder where they got them from?

I mean I have never seen a 'burb without tinted rear windows.

When I picked up my Z66, it had the 16" wheels on it too the Dealer was swapping parts, had to bring it in later to get my REAL 17" WOL wheels and tires..

Your Av have tinted windows because her Av is standard. If you get the base package, I think Chevy don't give you the tinted windows. Only the Z71, Z66, etc. does.

I have the mostly standard 2500 with the darker back windows. Hmmm, I do have the convieneince package with dimming mirrors, etc. though.

According to one of the mechanics at my dealership that has become the resident Avalanche expert.

The first few AV's built had the window tints all screwed up. I mean screwed up big time.

I have a Z66 with a rear midgate window with deep tint. No tint on any other windows. See banner below.

I was given a $150 credit for not having the tint on the rear windows. Only cost me $70 to have them tinted. Not the same but I got them tinted darker than the factory tint.

Not always true. My Av is a base model and I have dark tint on the back and the sides. I think it has to do when it was built. Mine was built in 9/01. When I was at the dealer a few weeks ago I did notice that the base Av's did not have tint. There was even a 4x4 2500 that did not have tint.

I think at first they were standard on all Av then change and made them a option. My window sticker does not save anything about tint.

Well, they weren't standard at first... mine was built 6/1/01 and had no tint on the rear side windows.

I've got a Black Z66 2WD 1500, and when I bought it, the front doors were clear and the rear doors and window had "deep tinted" glass, which for those of us that wanted a customized tint job, sucks. I called GM and asked if I could get a clear rear window, but their reply was no, nothing was available, but according the GMbuypower configurator deep tinted glass was an option... go figure.

I've yet to see any around where I live that have the clear/light tint. (Central Florida).

I just this week got around to tinting the windows beyond what was done @ the factory, so now with what appeared to be ~20% on top of the 5% I added, my rear window/doors are now probably in the 3% range.

I've had nothing but praise for the extra dark tint on the black paint. Now I have to decide weather or not to put some external decals on the window or leave it as it stands. Does anyone have any experience in dealing w/ external type decals vs. custom tint?

My rear windows are deep tinted glass. My Av was born on 9/01 and is a fully loaded Z-71.

then lower:

* A small number of early production Chevrolet Avalanches came from the factory without the deep tinted windows.

My AV has a frame date of 5/29/01, probably came off the line 6/5/01, and does not have the tinted rear door glass. The window sticker has it as a delete option and about $150.00 was subtracted from the sticker price. The rear glass is a light tint (not completely clear).

Anyone else without the tinted windows - what are the frame build dates of your AVs (located on the frame rail under the front passenger seat area)?

Fortunately I was lucky and my rears and back are tinted.
What I want to know is what's the legal limit for tinting the
driver and passenger windows? I see some that are as dark as the back but, I thought that was illegal.

ok, now to really confuse things:

1. build date 06/01

2. tinted rear windows (all three)

3. Window Sticker itself is silent on the issue.

4. Dealer invoice (the real one) says "AC6 Rear Pass Door Glass Tint Credit -150.00 (MSRP) -129.00 (Inv. Amt)"

So I got the credit for a door glass tint delete, but the rear door glass is tinted (but maybe not as dark as the midgate glass?)

It depends what state you live in if it's legal. I live in Illinois where it's been banned since 1984. I've tinted all my windows on every car I've had since 84 (12) and have only got 2 tickets, both by state troopers. I had my Avalanche done the second day I had it.

My Z66 was built in 06/01 and it has deep tint on the rear glass. Go figure.

My rear window frame cracked, I told the dealer that I didn't have the tinted rear/side windows. The replacement I got has NO TINT! The one I had had a light tint. Does that mean that the AV had a no tint, light tint, and deep tint rear window?
