Commuting around here in the Northeast we have on our highways and such a service called EZ-Pass. You mount a tag on the inside of your windshield and every time you go through a toll booth an electronic sensor detects your tag and deducts the toll amount from your account.
The problem is that the tag made for the inside of your vehicle will not work with certain windshield types. If you have one of these then you need and external tag :(.
The types of windshields that are a problem to the EZ-Pass tag are:
Heated,Solar Ray,Solar Control,Heat Reflective and Soft Ray Tint
Does the Avalanche have any of these kind of windshields?
Thanks for any help.

Good EZ pass reception has not been a problem in my Avy - I am tri-state area (the NY-NJ-CT tri-state, that is) and an EZ pass user

In Dallas, it is called a "Toll Tag" -- same technology. I've been using mine in my AV since the first of the year with no problems.

I have the Fast Lane here in MA. Mine is located as far up on the windshield as I could get it. I put it to the right of the rear view mirror and as close to it as I could get. (even though they say not to mount it behind the tinting). No problems here. I usually hit those lanes pretty fast too. ;D

I use the EZ-Pass here in Jersey as well and have no problems with the tag whatsoever.....you won't need an external tag...simply place the regular tag under the factory tint of your windshield adjacent to your rear view mirror....you shouldn't have a problem...

Trust me I have the ticket to prove how well it works...I ran through the Raritan toll plaza doing 35 and it picked up the signal fine.....to bad the speed limit is only 15mph.... :(

Had a problem with the EZpass first week I had the AV. Went to EZpass, made them give me a new one. Havent had a problem since September. Probably a weak battery.

I'm glad to hear of others not having EZ Pass problems. I just attached my tag next to the rear view mirror and will be using it this week on toll roads.

Here in Orlando it is called E-Pass and statewide system is called SunPass. I have mine high up on the windshield in the center of the glass. Have had no problems!

Thanks to all for the replies. You have been a great help and I've enjoyed reading about the different toll tag systems around the country.

Happy Av-ing!

I also live in New Jersey and use EZ-Pass mostly on the Parkway on my way to the shore (a lot). I haven't had any problems at all with the system. The only problem is 15 MPH is to slow of a limit for those lanes, and people can't read the signs. I know of people with motorcycles who keep theirs in their saddle bags, and other places on the bikes. They said they have no problems even when the EZ-Pass is not in the open.

Here in Ca. we have Fast Track for all the bridges and toll roads. The wife didn't have a problem in her Monte until I had the front strip tinted. Just had to move it below the tint line. No problems!!

I Have My E-Z Tag Mounted, High On The WindShield Behind The Rearview Mirror. It Works Great Zip Right thru At 65 mph.

Now, I Have A Question?

Does Anyone Have The AVALANCHE Windshield Sunsreen And An E-Z Tag/Pass ?

Does It Interfere With The E-Z Tag's Operation ?

Thanks,
