I've been having some sporadic problems with my windshield wash. For a few times is seemed it alternated as far as what side would work. One time the passenger side would spray driver side wouldn't, then driver side would passenger wouldn't. I tried this morning and I got nothing. Is something wrong with it or could it be attributed to all the snow and cold we've been having in the northeast?

Could be many things but hopefully you have put in some additional windshield washer antifreeze.

Has this been going on for a while or only when the temps got below freezing? If it has only been going on since temps got below freezing, you may need to add more windshield washer antifreeze. The wipers are exposed to the elements so the windshield washer fluid in the wiper can freeze and cause them not to work. If it has been going on before temps got below freezing, you might have some sort of debris in your lines.

Well I didn't get the truck until November but I know when I've been trying to use them its been recently after all the snow and cold temps. Hopefully thats all it is then.

Could be some crud in the water which temporarily clogs the spray heads.....get a super thin wire and clean them out....see if that helps....

Add a bottle of isopropyl alcohol to the wash bottle. Kmart is the cheapest (25 cents), elsewhere you'll pay up to a dollar, but it's still dirt cheap.

Thanks everyone it was definelty a temperature thing becuase when I left work yesterday it was above freezing and when I tried it again they both worked. I guess I'll have to get rid of the regular windshield wash and get the one that doesn't freeze.

I notice the AV windshield washer design is particularily prone to winter freeze-up. I was caught several times last winter with one or both nozzels frozen in sub-freezing temps despite having winterized windshield washer fluid.

GBM-I agree that this design is somewhat flawed when you think about the cold winter. Has anyone had the freezing problem and found a way to prevent it?

The design of placing the spayer in the wiper are is not the best as it is exposed to icing and freeze ups. Had a F@@d areostar that was so bad I found a different cowling that had the spray installed in that instead. I have fixed all that now Moved back to Texas. ;D

Always use nothing but 100% good quality antifreeze washer fluid up north.

Do not think there is a simple solution to freeze up.

Currently in Alaska using a -20 windshield cleaner...if it is below 0 both of my wipers are frozen (doesn't help I leave her outside)

Never had the problem in Washington or Arizona...must be the temp.
