I have a 2002 AV 2500
I wired my control by the post on this thread, (via Ed)but am having a bit of problem. Maybe I've got something hooked up wrong. I know there are some here who use this control, and maybe if I post how I wired it, you may see where I went wrong.
control black to truck red
control red to truck light blue small wire
control white to truck small black
control blue to truck blue
the display on the control will not light up and the truck wiring has the brown wire that says it is supposed to light up the control, but the control doesn't have any wire that says it is for the display. Maybe the truck brown should go to the black hot wire so the control display will show? I backed up the truck to the trailer, plugged in the trailer plug, but didn't set the hitch on the ball, and all the lights work right, but when I had my SO listen by the wheels, she couldn't hear the electric brakes activate. So, maybe I needed to set the trailer hitch onto the ball to make the brakes work? Maybe they need the ground between the truck and trailer? TIA for any help on this.

Quick question for ya. Does the control have a small indicator light come on when you step on the brakes? If it does, it is probably working OK. The display itself won't work until the trailer is plugged in.

(edit 'cause I can't spell)

There are no lights that come on when the brakes are applied. I have a Ford F150 that I use once in awhile, and the brake control on it will light up whenever the brakes are applied, whether I have a trailer attached or not. That was the first thing I looked for when I applied the brakes, a light which would tell me something is working. Maybe I do need to set the trailer onto the ball to make sure the ground goes clear through. ???

Try this link and see if it helps.

You shouldn't need hitch up the trailer to get a ground.

Thanks for the link.
That's exactley how I have it wired, so I guess my problem must be, that I need to hook the trailer hitch up to the truck. If that doesn't work, I'll have to check out my splice connections.

Well, I found the problem. Under the hood, stud #1 fuse wouldn't give me power to the control. I had to put the fuse into stud #2. Now I have power to the control, but the display is lit up all the time, even with the key off and my foot isn't on the brake. I wonder if having this display lit up that way, will run down the battery after while? Maybe something is crazy with that fuse box, because where it has a 30 amp fuse in the a/c fuse slot, I can take that fuse out and the A/C will still work without the fuse installed. ???

Sounds like there is no power to the controller. Check the fuses under the hood in the stud 1 and stud 2 positions. I'm too lazy to do a search, but one powers the controller and the other sends power to the trailer for rv battery charge, etc.

Good Luck

I didn't read this too close, but didn't know if you were aware that the 02 has one wire different than 03 & 04 hook-ups. Don't know why they switched harness in 03? Anyway, they are just a little different and I can research and find out if you want. I think it had to do with the brake lights or something, not the controller lighting up? Anyway, just a bit of info. I have the same controller and got the pre wired harness---its easier!
