Wyotonka build thread

I am still trying to decide what I want to do myself...

I am thinking of Krylon or maybe plastidip for now and maybe bedliner later. Not going to do bedlining before nationals. Might just leave like a Zebra for now...

Maybe I'll just say the heck with it and paint it full zebra stripe.  :p

I'm using rustoleum, it's the same paint I used on my camper and last I saw it still has all its paint. I have a little work left on the driver side still. I wish I would have done it sooner, the difference is phenomenal.

Rustoleum for Plastic?

We have that available near me too but curious what to use with it... How to prep etc...

I am guessing you scuff the surface and then use an adhesion promoter?

I cleaned my whole truck with a power washer scrubbed it down then cleaned it with windex then a sprayed on Cleaner. After that bulldog adheasine promoter I used a different paint but I have drive through tree branches and no problems I did no scuffing or sanding.

I washed the whole truck, and then I scrubbed all of it with a red scotch brite and plastic deglossifier. I have been kinda working in sections.

So as far as I can see there are no places of it flaking or scratches. unfortunately I have not washed it since then  :E: but it has been through some downpours driving down the interstate and a couple camping trips.  (y) I found my led strips to redo my big rig bars again but they have no backing over the board on the back so they aren't going to work  (n) now to convince the other half that I need another roll

I washed it finally Saturday morning and have no places of flaking, scratching, or discoloration  (y) I now need to decide what to do with the tonneau covers. I had a slight squealing on startup this morning, my guess would be the tensioner pulley, so tomorrow I'm going to try to get up early enough that I can troubleshoot.

I figure I'll probably do the belt while I'm at it and I'm open for brand suggestions.

Somewhat recent pic, this is somewhere around Herford CO. last month.  (y)

Now if I could just get Enkei to contact me about the rear fenders.  :E: Im almost to the point of seeing if I can fab some out of plate.

Goodyear Gatorback belts.

They stop squealing where others can not.

Hmm, I let mine dry for like 3 days before doing anything with it. Been scratching real easy when I bump up against anything...

I used Rustoleum...

I have taken mine through bushes and even scraped my thumbnail on it, I still have zero signs of it coming off anywhere. I used this paint only in satin black

and did my prepwork with a red scotchbrite and this
Liquid_Deglosser.jpg
When I was using the deglosser I poured it into a bucket and used a towel like I was washing the cladding, so that I knew it was getting in all the texture. I still haven't done anything with the tonneaus because I don't know what I want to do with them. I kinda liked the idea of having them body matched, but don't want to have to worry about it when putting the roof tent on.

Still reassembling mine.. Only have about 2 hours a day to play with stuff and I totally disassembled my bed... Drivers side bed back together with the saddle bags reinstalled and going to try to do the same with passenger side.

Still waiting on my 3rd brake light and will try to assemble rest of cladding and take some pictures.

I like the black and I think it looks better than the old zebra strips but not real happy with how it turned out. Probably just my spray painting ability with the rattle cans.. Looks like it was done with Rattle can. I used a different can of same brand but said it was made for plastics... And I used Satin Black too.

Makes me want to learn how to paint for "real" and plan on smoothing them out in the future...

I would definitely love to know how to paint like the pros, The Tonka trucks paint job needs some love. I just can't decide if i get it repainted if I should go with the same yellow that's on it, or try and find the actual Tonka yellow.

Every time I painted mine, it seems I got better at it.
The next time I have to paint though, I plan to rent a paint gun and get the paint in the can rather than use the rattle cans.
I feel like I will get better coverage and a even more professional finish that way.

I agree... I am still debating on what to do with the lower cladding. I will be posting pictures soon on my build thread about mine. Had to repair both of the outside sail panels because when I pulled them off some of the "brackets" came loose. Not sure how to remove the outside sail panels without breaking them.. Using JB Weld to mount them back in place.

Indeed you will! As a guy who use to stain and clear coat all kinds of cabinets (doors and trim) then going to a rattle can for projects at school and so on your paint grade coming out will be a lot better and coverage is so much more even and precise!

So the other day my brother brought to my attention that there really isnt much on this truck i have left alone and i am STILL going  this was brought up since he has been looking for one for him and asked why mine is pretty base model and still has more gadgets than a typical 03 did so i figured a build thread wouldnt be a bad idea >:D
So we start in august of 2010 when I traded my 03 limeted edition Jeep Liberty for it

Now? I was a junior in high school when these were taken ?. Don?t ask why there was a fear this sticker on a Jeep Liberty I look back and wonder the same thing however as you can see in the senior pic one it was gone by then (and a pain to take off) however it was dubbed the Liberator at school
So we were lot driving the other day here in town and stumbled across a 03 limited edition liberty. I got out and was pretty excited because I do miss driving a Jeep. When I walked around the back of the Jeep I knew right away that it was my old Jeep (I backed into the neighbors truck when I was 16). It has had a rough life since I got rid of it.  :needhug: The worst part is that they aren't asking a rough life price. The price they have on it is for a Jeep in good condition, and this one is not in good condition. I guess I'll have to get it out of my head to have my old jeep again.
The front end has been replaced with random parts, the rear passenger door is off of a newer liberty because the shape of the door and fender are completely different and the window does not work. The sales guy said he took in that one and 3 or 4 other vehicles from a friend and gave him a bit more than they normally would.
:needhug:

That's own fault and doesn't justify commanding a higher price.  Maybe he'll come to his senses and drop it down to a realistic price after it doesn't sell for a couple months.

That is why I'm thankful I have sold all my vehicles to people either from out of state, or from far away.  I don't like seeing or hearing about the horrible things that people do to them.  I did get an email from one of them when they were screwing around and messed up the quarter panel of one of my old cars.  It nearly made me ill.  I do keep a list of VINs just in case I run across one some day.

Possibly just found a dual alternator setup for $300 anything else I would need other than the bracket, belt, and alternator?
