If any of you have ever looked under the Av at the stock y-pipe, you know that it is smashed where the drivers side crosses over to the passenger side. I was at the local shop changing my oil and other misc. things (awsome deal, $15 and hour for use of a lift, an AZ guys let me know if you want more info...) and the guy there said that he could make me a new y-pipe out of 2 1/2" manderel (sp?) bent SS tuning, add flanges to the cats, and also make off-road pipes that will also be flanged for easy change over...All for $150ish, add another $100 for jet hot coating.

My question is, what do you guys think about this idea? I already have JBA headers and a B&B exhaust, so I thought that it would be nice to get rid of the last of the restriction. I I have a similar set-up on my 96 Impala (headers, no cats) and I LOVE the sound, and really, taking away the cats gave me some better power, and I would think that getting rid of the crushed pipe would be good for a good chunk of power.

P.S. I know all about the O2 sims, if I decide to run no cats. >:D

These crushed portions are not all that restrictive......and they are crushed for ground clearance issues......

There is another thread in this section on this part of the stock exhaust...and a few comments from peeps....

So are you saying that it wouldn't be worth the $150?

What about the sound if I chose to not run cats? Is anyone running any form of off-rod pipe?

Troy

I suggest Sending muffman a PM....as he is our resident exhaust expert.....
